Recieved a letter from a debt collection agency this morning about a debt belonging to someone living in the property before me. It says if it’s not my debt, to call them so they can assist me. The number is a 0113 number. I googled it because I didn’t know if it was freephone or not and the results says:
The cost of calling an 0113 number is usually up to 13p a minute if you are calling from a landline, but can be up to 55p should you place the call from a mobile phone. There also might be what is known as a 'Call Set Up Fee', which usually rangesfrom between 15p – 20p
AIBU to be annoyed by this, for spending money on a call (I don’t have a landline phone I should add, only a mobile) that isn’t even anything to do with me in order to stop debt collectors banging on my door? How is this even legal? If I’m on the phone for over 10 minutes trying to sort this out, that’s paying out over a fiver for something that is nothing to do with me at all! AIBU? (Not about the cost but the principle)?
