Chances of catching Covid

My 7 year old has tested positive. What are the chances of the rest of us getting it? Two adults and two more kids in the house.

You will end up with a variety of replies. We are a household of five and two got it while the other three didn’t, with no isolation from each other within the house.

ChimChimeny · 15/10/2021 06:32

Depends on if you are vaccinated I'd assume, my friend's DC both had it (oldest first, then Youngest caught it off her) but neither parents did. Both fully vaccinated, did daily LFT (part of a trial) & a couple.of PCR tests too so they'd definitely have known.

RaaFace · 15/10/2021 06:32

Weirdly it's not a given you'll all get it too. I find this odd. Anyway open the windows as much as you can.

Enterifyoudare · 15/10/2021 06:33

You probably already have it. Whether or not you get ill with it or not is the question. And that is like how long is a piece of string.

emmy4 · 15/10/2021 06:33

I have just recovered, another adult and two children did not catch it. No isolation within the house either.

AlexaShutUp · 15/10/2021 06:35

DD had it. I got it, DH didn't. I'm assuming he won't now as dd is at the end of her isolation and I'm nearly there too.

We tried to distance a bit in the house but we didn't go for full on isolation for anyone.

Flidina · 15/10/2021 06:36

4 in this house, 2 adults double vaccinated caught it from unvaccinated teen, other teen didn't catch it, but was ill, but pcr result negative for covid, tested multiple times, to be sure.

Nidan2Sandan · 15/10/2021 06:40

I had it, 3x DC & DH didnt catch it & I still slept in bed with DH.

clarepetal · 15/10/2021 06:42

A few weeks ago my 6 year old had it. I'm double jabbed my bf isn't. I shared a bed with him, neither of us caught it. There is hope for you!

buzzandwoodyallday · 15/10/2021 06:42

My 1 year old had it, but his 2 year old brother, nor myself or DP caught it from him. It's random OP.
Might as well ask how long a piece of string is tbh. Fingers crossed for you all.

Bouncebacker · 15/10/2021 06:45

6 year, old and 9 year old DCs got it, DH got it (doubled vaccinated with AZ), I didn’t (doubled vaccinated with Pfizer)

Whattodonowill · 15/10/2021 06:47

Adults double vaccinated but not kids as all under ten. Guess it's just a wait and see. We've had negative PCR so will just keep checking. Child had two negative LFT though before positive PCR.

Pressed post too soon.
So I'm not sure how reliable LFTs are

Each time one of my kids got it, no one else in the house did - and they weren't isolating within the house. 3 of my children had it in my house over the summer (each catching it from elsewhere over a period of 2-3 months) , and no one else in the house caught it from any of them.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 15/10/2021 06:59

The children I know have all caught it from siblings upto about 7 days later. Not all the parents have had it. This variation seems to spread more easily as before I didn’t know of many cases of household transmission.
I agree re the LFTs and wouldn’t use them with covid in the house but just isolate and pcr.

x2boys · 15/10/2021 07:31

Are you fully vaccinated?
My 14 year old tested positive at the start of the school holidays in the summer
Both myself and dh are fully vaccinated, we live in a small two bedroom house with one bathroom, neither of us caught it and neither did ds2

SamMil · 15/10/2021 07:55

My 3 year old had it a few weeks ago. Both adults are fully vaccinated and we didn't catch it.

Vallmo47 · 15/10/2021 07:59

9 year old tested positive, caught in school. Two days later mum tested positive. No distancing, not much ventilation really but DH and teenager didn’t catch it. It really is that random.
Both adults double vaccinated. It didn’t stop covid from making me ill but it made it the mild disease they’ve said about. Good luck.

Oh and LFT’s are shit in my opinion. My daughter had no symptoms and tested negative. I also tested negative the day before my symptoms started. Now I wouldn’t even bother.
