To not understand the point of going into the office to work?

I started a new job a few months ago, working from home. I've been to the office a couple of times but now we have been told to go in twice a week.

I have to pay £30 train fare and 3 hours commuting just to sit at a desk on my laptop, the same laptop I use at home. I am much less productive at work. Sure it's nice seeing colleagues but it's such a hassle. Meetings are still on Teams, even when people are in the office.

To make it worse, I applied for the job on the basis I could work at my company's office that is local to me, once I started I found out that my entire department is all based in the office that is a 1.5 hour commute away, so my choice is to go to the office where I don't know anyone or face the long commute to an office I was not told I would have to go to when I accepted the job.

Check your contract.
Have you asked if it's possible to work from the office that is closer to home?
