Obsessed with Mr Grinch

My Dd, 3.

A few weeks ago, Dp The Grinch on for her (no idea why when it’s not Christmas yet 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Since then, she’s been obsessed with him, she wants to watch it all the time, constantly talks about him and pretends to be him, has even started frowning like him.
She wants to play Mr Grinch with me and for me to be Max, the dog.
She even introduced herself as Mr Grinch to the head when we went to see a school last week 🙈
All the other girls her age are into Frozen, princesses etc and she wants to play The Grinch 😬
Is this normal? Tbe obsession etc 😅

Totally normal, one of mine was obsessed with shrek. We watched it till I wanted to pull my eyes out of my head! when I was pregnant with my next she told everyone who’d listen there was a donkey in my tummy.

I don't think it's abnormal for a kid to obsess over a particular film/TV programme. It happens all the time. When I was her age, I was obsessed with the Ghostbusters 😂

Grinchallyear · 14/10/2021 13:12

But do you think it’s ok to introduce herself as Mr Grinch? As in, it’s always with strangers, is it perhaps a nervous thing?

I'd just say to them she's discovered The Grinch and laugh about it

If its the Benedict Cumberbatch version then your daughter INBU as it is bloody awesome!!

Also introducing herself as Mr Grinch is fine, it's make believe. My kids pretend to be a variety of characters. Having good pretend play skills is a really positive thing.

You are waaaay over thinking this. Just leave her be and let her like the things she likes.
Grinchallyear · 14/10/2021 14:19

@44PumpLane It is that version! 🤣

It’s dd’s favourite movie at nearly 4

She doesn’t go to same lengths but will choose it over others fairly often

It’s a pretty good movie so not too bad if you have to watch it too

@Grinchallyear I was "made" to watch that again this weekend by my nearly 5yo twins..... It makes me laugh so much every time. I love Bricklebaum and how pleased he is with his dog Grin

I know a child...who was obsessed with Heidi. Wanted to be Clara, the friend in the wheelchair. Insisted on being carried everywhere as no wheelchair available and wrote her name as Clara on all school books etc. Only answered to Clara. Refused to walk at all, even to school....

That's normal. Its fine so long as you aren't going through passport control at the airport and security ask the usual "are you /is that your mummy?" and they Say "No, I am Mr Grinch/Moana/Christine/Maverik etc etc" . That can be awkward (bitter experience). But otherwise its fine.
