AIBU tell me what will happen tomorrow

Posting for traffic because I’m starting to panic. I’ve posted in chat but not had many replies.

Have a hospital appointment tomorrow with a dr at the breast clinic.
Was referred by GP as was having pain in armpits and subsequently found a lump, then found another lump on other breast. I’m 33. What will they do at the clinic? I’ve searched old Mumsnet threads and seen some people say that they may do a biopsy and remove cysts there and then. Jesus. What ? I don’t think I have fully prepared myself for this, and the thought of something like that happening tomorrow has frightened me. If anyone could offer advice that would be great x

I had my boobs prodded at, ultrasound then sent on my way with “probably hormonal”

I’ve recently been to the breast clinic for pain in armpits and a lump in the breast. It was so straightforward and they were so lovely. I stripped off, they had a good look at my breasts with my arms in different positions. They felt my armpits for lumps and then had a feel of my breasts, sat up and led down. Then I had a painless ultrasound on each breast. The lumps were fatty deposits that feel like lumps due to how the breast tissue surrounds them.

I had this last year, went sat in waiting room for a bit, got assessed by a doctor then had an ultrasound determined would need to be checked 6 weeks later and sent home. Went back to recheck and all was fine, was told (if remembering correctly) that if action needed taken they would have done a needle biopsy then and go from there then x

I had to have 12 biopsies on one breast once. The area was numbed abd the biopsies were taken by a kind of reverse needle thing. I don't remember pain, just that it felt weird and the sound of the click - like clicking a pen, but a big pen - was weird.

The best thing you can do tonight though is sleep. Hard, I know, but nothing else tonight will make tomorrow better than that will. And try to remember that you actually had more of a problem before the lumps were found then you do now: professionals are now involved. Whatever they do/say, this is their area of expertise.

If it's really impossible to relax (I'm crap at it!) then perhaps write a list of any possible questions you might want to ask them tomorrow. You can take it with you in case your mind goes blank.

I'm really sorry you're going through this, it's incredibly stressful.

I am a similar age to you and found a lump a few years ago. I went to my GP, I was referred and they did a few tests on the day, I had a biopsy done and two weeks later got my results. There was a lot of waiting around but they were all brilliant and reassuring.

The most likely thing they'll do is an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy, but thats a simple procedure and nothing to be worried about, hope it all goes for you Flowers

This happened to me a couple of months ago after I found a lump. The consultant examined both breasts, I then had a Mammogram followed by an ultrasound. The result was that my breasts are full of totally harmless cysts.

You'll be examined by the doctor; then sent for a mammogram; then, depending if they see anything, you may be sent for an ultrasound; then, if they find a lump, they may do a biopsy, there and then. If it's a cyst it will usually drain when they do the biopsy; otherwise they will send off the biopsy to be tested and you'll get the results about a week later. The biopsy is quick and painless and they numb your breast beforehand.

I had ultrasound and a biopsy. It didn't hurt either at the time or afterwards. I was diagnosed with a phylloides tumour, which can be either benign or malignant. I also have several fibroadenomas which are still there and a bit lumpy but cause no problems at all. I had to have ithe tumour removed and looked at properly - it turns out it was benign. I had about a 5cm scar which has now all but disappeared.

I was referred back in April. In my case the first appointment was only a mammogram with radiographer (?), but I was told that beforehand. She then explained to me that at the next appointment I would see a doctor who would look at results and examine my breasts, and then if they needed to do a biopsy cyst removal or ultrasound they could do it that day. As it was I was in and out quickly as there was nothing on the mammogram or on examination, and they think it was hormonal. They were all so lovely.
By the way I was warned that the younger you are the more likely you are to need both mammogram and ultrasound as your breasts are denser so harder to be sure on mammogram alone, so not to panic if they did so both.

I have been to a breast clinic a few times once with a lump which turned out to be a cyst. Breast pain, a thickening on my breast and underarm pain. If it's a one stop clinic they will examine you give you a mammogram and as you have a lump a ultrasound as well. The one I have attended also do a needle biopsy and I think you get any results on the day. When they did the needle biopsy on my lump it totally dispersed proving that it was a cyst.

I went a couple of years ago, also in early-ish 30s at the time. Pain in armpits and one breast in particular. The clinic examined me after taking a family history. No scans were offered. Said I was fine and to take evening primrose oil for the pain. I've put up with the pains ever since.

I found a lump in April and was referred. The consultant spoke to me then had a look and feel of the lump and general area. He said he wasn’t concerned but I needed to get tests. I then went along to get a mammogram and an ultrasound. The ultrasound woman was lovely she could see it was a cyst and aspirated it but said there were several small ones. Due to hormonal changes in my 40’s I have polycystic tissue. I was then sent back to the consultant to have a ‘de-brief’. The whole time I was treated kindly and with redirect and dignity, the mammogram was the worst part as it’s quite uncomfortable cut only for a minute or so.

This happened to me. I was about 30 at the time. I was referred by GP to breast clinic, appointment next day where they did an ultra sound, was fully expecting them to say it was fine and send me on my way but they said they didn't like the look of it. I had a biopsy there and then, I wasn't expecting that, I thought I would be told to come back but it was brilliant. I didn't have the time to stress over it, it wasn't particularly comfortable but that is about all I can say about it, it certainly wasn't really painful - about the same type of pressure and pain you get with an injection - no biggy. I got my results and it turned out to be a completely harmless fibroadenoma.
All the staff are really kind, used to people who are frightened and thinking the worst. You are being smart and getting it promptly checked and odds are it is fine - but if it isn't you are better to know, catch early and formulate an action plan.
For me the worst part was that they said they would call only if there was something to worry about, otherwise they would write a letter. So when I got the phone call my heart sunk. They were calling to say it was fine! :)

Thanks all, your replies helped me get my head down for a bit of sleep last night. Here now, I’ve been poked and prodded as you suggested and waiting on a scan just now.
Only think I’m surprised at is that I’m sitting here in a hospital gown in the corridor next to fully clothed patients (men included) I have my bottom half on but still feels a bit uncomfortable.

Both myself and my 17 DD have had lumps that required further investigation and tests in hospital. All results showed fatty lumps as a result of hormones. All I can say is we visited two different hospitals (private & NHS) and the people were sooooooo lovely with an amazing bedside manner.
