I ordered and paid for a cake mixer from ALDI.

It should have been delivered on Monday by Hermes between 3 and 5pm.
I waited and it did not arrive.
I received a message saying they would attempt delivery between 6pm and 8pm, not saying why it was not delivered before.
I waited and it did not arrive
No explanation from either ALDI or Hermes forthcoming
Next day I emailed ALDI asking why my mixer had not been delivered
Today they tell me the mixer was damaged by the courier and I won't be receiving it. I said to just send me another one.
They say they have refunded the money already so I have to re-order online provided the mixer is still for sale. I will not receive the money back on the original order for five days.
My daughter's friend works for Hermes. We gave her the details and she sent my daughter a photo of the damaged box in the courier's van.
They knew it was damaged and they still told me I would be getting the parcel delivered between 6pm and 8pm !

I stayed in wasting my time for a delivery that was never coming.
ALDI said they are very sorry.
I ordered the mixer on my partner's card. I can't justify ordering and paying for another until he gets the money back into his account. It feels rude to do so.
In the meantime I have to hope they still have the mixer online in five days.
I feel exhausted by it all.
I just wonder how the courier managed to damage a cake mixer in a box while it was in his van and I want to vent my anger at this poor unfortunate man
..Actually I just needed to vent :)

I feel better already

Hermes are fucking awful.

LittleMG · 13/10/2021 17:58

This happened to my mum with an iPad she naught off Amazon. One person on the phone said they wouldn’t send another iPad she rang again the next day and someone else sent her a new one. Ridiculous situation to be in.

Soupseason · 13/10/2021 18:00

Slightly annoying but in the grand scheme of things it's a non event. Wait till the money is returned & go buy one.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 13/10/2021 18:01

I assume you mean that sometimes they are awful. My local deliveries are excellent, they try to sort out problems, ive neve had any bother with any parcels I've sent and I have a close family member who is a big seller online and uses them every day, very very few problems

OP, of course it's frustrating but what can you do? Take a deep breath and hope you get one next time.

Cocomarine · 13/10/2021 18:03

Exhausted seems a bit extreme!
It’s certainly annoying. The new delivery time will have been triggered by the system knowing the driver would miss the slot - could have been triggered before damage was found.
Hermes are shit though, you have my sympathy there!
Sounds like Aldi were polite, which is nice.
I think you’re cutting your nose off to spite your face - if your partner isn’t in their overdraft, why would they mind you using their card again? You feel rude asking a simple favour that costs them nothing - in time or money - yet you have sex with them. Odd!

Stuckhere2021 · 13/10/2021 18:04

Hermes are the Devil’s spawn. (I appreciate that there will be some decent drivers). Every time we have a problem with online ordering / delivering its Hermes. And they lie to you.
I have no idea why companies still use them.

DontWiltMySpinachPlease · 13/10/2021 18:05

In the grand scheme of deliveries, you didn't wait that long for answer or a resolution, especially when Hermes are concerned. I'd count yourself lucky.

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/10/2021 18:09

You’re quite right OP next day deliveries of undamaged orders not happening when scheduled is an outrage. But with civilisation collapsing, you can expect more of this to occur.

MrzClaus · 13/10/2021 18:10

Our Hermes people are lovely!

It sucks OP, but aldi seemed proactive by auto processing a refund like that without a battle. To be honest - my deliveries sometimes get rescheduled when they're running late, they might not have seen the parcel was damaged until they got closer to delivery (if it's in the back of a van behind / under other parcels!) and had to wait to go back to the depot to have approval to register it as damaged.

Have you managed to secure another mixer??

What does having sex with my partner have to do with any of this :)

I mean - that this is a person that you love and trust enough to be intimate with. OK, so based on some of my one night stands, that doesn’t always go alongside sex 🤣 But you do say partner. So here is someone that you’re intimate with and trust, right? Yet you can’t just say - “hey, I need to wait 5 days for a refund and I’m afraid they’ll be sold out - would you mind me putting a second on your card please?” Why wouldn’t they do that? Why would you think it rude to ask?

Absolutely agree. I can no longer get deliveries from M&S because they use them, I go to collect instead which can be a pain but at least I can make sure I get my goods
Holskey · 13/10/2021 19:08

@esloquehay

Hermes are fucking awful.
This has been my exact experience.

They lose items, damage items, and tell an assortment of lies as to why they couldn't deliver e.g. road blocked (it's an A road so we'd know), nobody home (we have cctv), no access (eh?). Just terrible.

Anordinarymum · 13/10/2021 19:10

The point is that he would do anything for me.. anything.. and I would not want to take the piss. I assume nothing even though I already know... I will always ask. It's polite and nice and my relationship is based on both of us being thoughtful and polite. It's a part of what makes it work.

He's told me to order another now, but do you know what? I've gone right off ALDI

Seasidemumma77 · 13/10/2021 19:11

5 working days is the maximum amount of time it will take for the refund to hit your account, all depends on your bank, some customers' banks will refund instantly others a day or two.

Anordinarymum · 13/10/2021 19:12

Holesky

I think it is because I knew they lied. This is why I was so cross.

OP posts:
CSIblonde · 13/10/2021 19:13

Hernes are rubbish. The tracking says they take a photo of your item in your porch/a safe place or at handover. Cue picture of my item propped against a wall in clear view of the road & the other 9 flats occupants when coming & going, when I'd been in all day & have a working buzzer to my flat. I let rip on the "feedback form".

The delivery system will keep delaying the time slot until the item is delivered or checked back in, which won't happen until the end of day. No one lied to you.

They knew the item was damaged. I saw the photo they took dated before before they offered me another delivery slot !

No wonder you're exhausted, you're taking it too personally.

No one at Hermes (or ALDI!) cares enough to lie to you. You're just an order number.

An automated system spewed out new delivery times in error...that's all.

Mildly inconvenient at best.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 13/10/2021 19:24

Hermes took nearly two weeks to deliver something we bought from Curry's. We were told by Curry's it would arrive the next day. I loathe Hermes.

DrSbaitso · 13/10/2021 19:31

Shitness, thy name is Hermes.

LOL I am not taking anything personally . But since it did happen to me it is personal to me. It seems to me no matter what you say on here it gets ripped apart by people who just want to be obtuse Why I have no idea???

Yes - they lied. They could have told me the item was damaged. They already knew it was. They gave me another slot and I had to wait in.
The whole point of my thread was that the item was damaged before they gave me a slot to wait in for it.
I have the photo. My friend at Hermes filled me in on it. FFs
