To want to report him?

My DF is a (just about) functioning alcoholic. Very hard for me to get a clear picture as I don't see my DPs often enough and they are obviously trying to be on their best behavior when I am visiting with my DCs.
The thing is I am 99% sure he drives under the influence a lot. He has called me before whilst driving and I could tell but I had no location on him. He has been banned over 10 years ago for over a year for DD but nothing since however I know there have been multiple instances over the years.

I think he goes through phases with it. I feel like I should anonymously report his vehicle to the local authorities as I know they can keep an eye out (So to speak) on the reg and the person behind the wheel but at the same time I feel like I might be over reacting and snitching on my own DF which feels wrong.

AIBU to feel like I should do this?

I don’t t think they would just pull him over multiple times until they caught him.
Is there any time you know he’s over the limit ?

And don’t worry about snitching. I snitched about my FIL to the DVLA, to get him off the road before he hurt or killed someone.

You reporting him isn't you causing problems, it's his behaviour that's problematic. It may save lives. I have never been in your situation but the thought of him causing an accident whilst drunk when I could have done something about it would freak me out

I'm not 100% how it works. I know I could provide the description + reg of the car and also the person in question (so they wouldn't do a random check if for example my DM was behind the wheel).

I would not be able to tell you when he's over the limit. He has called me sometimes at 11 in the day and I could tell, and he would tell me he's just driving to a job he's got on - self employed so again quite hard to pin down.

I would 100% report any member of my family if I knew they were drunk driving. Imagine if they killed someone? I think it would possibly only work if you knew they were currently driving under the influence and called 999 to report but I'm not certain.
