COVID twice

AIBU to ask how many people have now had confirmed COVID twice? And how the two cases compared?

Me! First time was Dec 2019 awful… couldn’t breathe, the pressure on my chest was unbearable. I had to send kids to their Dad as couldn’t care for them. I went to hospital twice, had ECGs, X-rays, steroids, antibiotics nobody knew what it was and I was extremely ill for 2 months.
Second time last week, I am double jabbed. Felt like flu, aches and pains but that’s all. I’m still tired but nothing like last time

Sure. I think this has been updated. I personally know at least a dozen people who have had it twice now, all school employees, which sucks but is not surprising given how 98% of the people in our primary are unvaccinated children.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. DH has shown me a study that cited only 17 cases of reinfection which seemed unlikely given I have met one. A dozen is a lot though! Although is noteable that many on this thread were unlikely confirmed the first time, and in the link that some of the ‘possible cases’ could be still testing positive from the first infection so the rate could be even lower than 0.4%. Shame it happens at all but reassuring that it’s low. Would love to see figures that helped us understand the difference in reinfection rate for natural immunity in vaccinated and unvaccinated populations.

My husband has just tested positive for the second time. He had it 4 months ago so I'm really surprised he's got it again so soon. He is a primary school teacher and both times he has had it have been when there has been a huge increase in cases at school. Luckily he seems much less ill this time round.

Step mum and dad both caught it twice last year before vaccines. Both on verge of hospitalisation the first time. Second time poorly but not as bad. My grandma has had it twice, both times asymptomatic but picked up due to routine tests in hospital. She’s 92.my mum was very poorly with it may 2020. Had it again last month after being double jabbed. Very mild.

I’ve had it twice! First time I thought I was dying, 4 weeks in bed, couldn’t walk or talk for a big part of that. Not vaccinated.
Second time after full vaccination, I had a dodgy tummy, didn’t think anything of it, then a sore throat and runny nose for 2 days which is when I got the PCR and a positive result. Test and trace then told me the stomach trouble was likely covid related too… I didn’t know at the time it was a delta symptom. Felt awful because after the stomach bug was over I had been out and about places!
Mask up folks.

If it was late 2019 it wasn't covid! There was another nasty bug going around at the time.

Mydogisagentleman · 26/10/2021 16:29

DD has had it three times.
Each confirmed by a PCR
