DP is not from this country but came here few years ago. He has just two friends from his home country living locally so relies heavily on me but is never oppressive nor stops me seeing my large circle of friends and often comes along. I really feel for him though lacking male company.
One of his friends, let’s call him Sidney, he has known since childhood keeps treating him like crap, i.e. arranging things then ducking out and not contacting him for ages, making DP be the first one to make contact. When we do see Sidney and his girlfriend we have always have a good time in the past but he has now made a new friend, let’s call him Roly and spends nearly all of his time with him. This Roly has had a major influence on him and has no doubt been bad-mouthing us as we don’t seem to be welcome in this circle. On Christmas Day last year Sidney & his girlfriend agreed to come to spend it with us then got an offer from Roly and went there instead, saying they would be with us after at 7pm, finally turning up at 11pm- needless to say I was fuming by then.
Sidney and his girlfriend were also planning to come on holiday with us but dropped plans to go with Roly (whose wife left him six months ago). Sidney is not the most intelligent guy and is easily influenced.
So my poor DP is being treated really badly but keeps forgiving Sidney as this is practically the only mate he has. I’m so sick of it I have withdrawn from the friendship because I hate seeing my DP hurt.
Anyone experienced something similar and how did you tackle it?
