Swab trouble??

Son needs a pcr test which we had delivered to home as I dont drive. While doing his tonsils he threw up and so the swab is unusable.
We have afew lft swabs so can he use that? Really don't want to wait 2 more days for a new pack

Yes definitely the swabs are the same.

GoodHairDay86 · 12/10/2021 07:30

Brilliant thank you, I assumed it would be fine but thought I would check as imagine sending it off waiting afew days then getting a message that he needs to repeat the test! He is year 10 so needs to be in school as much as possible Smile

Next time he don't try to swab his tonsils. Just do 10 swans off each tonsil.

I also cannot swab my tonsils, and the supervisor at the drive-through testing centre confirmed that I should do both nostrils instead.

Dilbertian · 12/10/2021 07:43

Sorry about the bonkers autocorrect GrinGrin.

Just do 10 swabs of each nostril.

I thought the swabs were different, or is that no longer the case with the new nostril only LFTs. I’ve not done a PCR test but others who have said the swabs were larger

JellyTots2009 · 12/10/2021 08:00

I did think PCR swabs were thicker and LFT are quite thin and bendy

SoupDragon · 12/10/2021 08:05

I think the only difference in the swabs is that the PCR ones snap off to fit in the tube. I don't recall them being any different.

I've never been able to swab my tonsils - I can't even get anywhere near them. I do a very thorough swab of both nostrils instead.

toomuchlaundry · 12/10/2021 08:13

The new LFT swabs are shorter and thicker so are maybe the same now

GoodHairDay86 · 12/10/2021 08:19

I also thought the lft swabs were smaller, but I'm going to assume if there is covid on the swab it will be clear to them and he wont need to re-do it 🤞🏻 and thanks for the advice, I will get him to do only nostrils

Use the left over swabs, just do the nose though

AramintaLee · 12/10/2021 19:55

I did a PCR test the other day and almost vomited when I swabbed my tonsils and in that moment I wondered why they don't include more than one swab.
