Booked a forward facing table seat as have some work to do on my way to a meeting. Arrived at seat to find woman with dog under the table who got on at the same station. Went to take my seat and she said “sorry you can’t sit there, I need room for the dog”. Dog does not have anything on it to identify it as a working dog. Surely she should have been sitting in the unbooked area if she wanted to hog all the seats?

She needs to move in that case as you have the "dog seat" reserved so it isn't available for her dog.

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 11/10/2021 09:23

Sit in the seat you paid for. She'll have to move if she needs more room for the dog.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/10/2021 09:24

Yes you should sit in your booked seat. If she needs more room she should move. Just tell her that very clearly.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2021 09:24

Just say “sorry I paid for this seat. Unless you want to give me the money so your dog can sit there, I’m having my seat”

Sparklesocks · 11/10/2021 09:24

You’ve booked the seat so tough shit for her im afraid. But some people are entitled and don’t take no for an answer.

RedHelenB · 11/10/2021 09:25

Tell her what you've told us and take the seat. Why are people so passive, they just encourage CF!

PinkFootstool · 11/10/2021 09:26

YOU DON'T PAY TO BOOK A SEAT ON A TRAIN!

However, you had booked it. It's not enforceable though.

FatAnkles · 11/10/2021 09:27

If there is a guard find him/ her to resolve the issue.

Fridafever · 11/10/2021 09:33

What does it’s not enforceable mean? Generally the train operator will enforce it - do you mean you can’t get the police involved?

FatBettyintheCoop · 11/10/2021 09:38

Why didn’t you calmly tell her you’ve booked the seat and SHE NEEDS TO MOVE? Her dog, her problem.

I’ve always made people move if they attempt to nick my booked seat.

DoraMaude · 11/10/2021 09:41

What did you do? Did you take your seat as planned?

mikedyson · 11/10/2021 10:03

What do you mean “not enforceable”?

What is the point of booking if people just ignore it?

SentDeliveredRead · 11/10/2021 10:16

Did she move the dog?

Blossomtoes · 11/10/2021 10:21

I got on a train once to find a woman sitting in my pre booked seat. When it was politely pointed out to her she asked incredulously if I wanted her to move. I didn’t particularly care but my husband didn’t want to sit opposite her instead of me for two hours - and he told her so.

I hope dog woman’s moved on @Darkmattermuffin.

Leftbutcameback · 11/10/2021 10:27

I’ve been on trains where the guard will enforce it, and some where they won’t. I’ve also got on a lot of trains where they’ve just not had any of the reservations at all! Mainly the ones with the paper tickets still. It makes travelling stressful especially if you need to get work done. Hope it worked out ok OP

Leftbutcameback · 11/10/2021 10:32

Btw if you can’t use your reservation some of the TOCs do pay compensation which is interesting as they ascribe a value to a reservation, even though you don’t pay for it and you’re not even entitled to a seat!

MinnieMountain · 11/10/2021 10:35

That’s annoying.

I prefer window seats. The couple who tried to hog the window seats at the table before DH and I got on were incredulous that I wanted one of them to move from my booked seat (they did but grumbled to each other).

Leftbutcameback · 11/10/2021 10:36

People are such CFs! If I sit in a reserved seat I’m always ready to move out and looking out for the ticket holder

Brollywasntneededafterall · 11/10/2021 10:43

Take photos and shame her on sm.
Seriously op if you are competent enough to travel alone tell her to move her friggin ddog!!

girlmom21 · 11/10/2021 10:44

So did you take your seat anyway?

Mamamamasaurus · 11/10/2021 10:45

I hope to fuck you haven't let this rest and you claimed your booked seat

meadowbleu · 11/10/2021 10:50

"I've reserved this seat by booking it in advance, if you have special requirements, you should do the same to avoid disappointment on the day"

I hope she moved.

Oh for goodness sake, don't do this. Shame on social media 🙄 This is actually what the world has come to, isn't it, ramming a camera in someone's face and bullying them online. How sad.
Brollywasntneededafterall · 11/10/2021 11:07

Isn't stealing someone's seat also pathetic?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/10/2021 11:12

Please god tell me you told her to shift and didn't just shuffle off passively. Please.

Otherwise, I just despair. People get away with this sort of cheeky fuckery because other people don't call them on it.
