To love being a single mum but HATE….

When anything tech related breaks, I am the “repair woman”

My two mid and late primary are no better

So when tv doesn’t work
Sky plays up
Can’t do something on TEAMS
Internet randomly disconnects
Problem with the boiler
Washing machine making a funny noise
Etc etc

I end up googling, watching you tube videos, sweating, swearing under my breath whilst my two ask when it will be fixed.

Sometimes I just want to say to a partner… you fix it, I’m off!

Aside from this though, absolutely love being a single mum.

But this, this…. Arrrggghh!!

Ha. I'm the fixer in this house, partner runs a mile!

DressBitch · 09/10/2021 17:46

My husband is friggin' useless at all things tech!

MatildaTheCat · 09/10/2021 17:52

Can you come over and fix my printer please?

UrsusSpelaeus · 09/10/2021 17:55

Oh yes, there's many of us on the same track...

I actually love fixing things generally but having to be the one who does it every single damned time can be exhausting.

At least it's much easier to get things done now than a decade ago when I had a useless, whingeing, drunken, feckless, spendthrift exH under my feet.

In the unlikely event I ever marry again, they don't have to be tall, rich or handsome, just able to repressurise the boiler, assemble some flat-pack furniture, and carry out minor electronic repairs so I can have a day off sometimes. Is there a handyman dating website somewhere...?

Someone to take out the bins. I hate taking out the bins.

Mine as well!! (I'm not much better Blush)

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/10/2021 18:07

I think days have long gone that men are the default repairers, years ago most would have probably had a manual job using tools and would have had the tools at home but nowadays most households single parent or otherwise are going to need to get trades in (or watch YouTube) as those skills are being lost as we made the move into office jobs etc.

Yesss love this!! Absolutely love being a single mum now to my son and I know how to repressure the boiler and play minecraft!! Who needs a man 🤷‍♀️

Heart palpitations at the thought from me
LindaLooky · 09/10/2021 18:15

I'm ok with tech but terrible with DIY. Also it really annoys me when I dont have the strength to do something eg move out the washing machine. Makes me feel useless.

But i agree i mostly love being a single parent.

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 09/10/2021 18:16

The OP didn’t say a man!!

She said a partner

Don’t jump on her without reading!!

FangsForTheMemory · 09/10/2021 18:16

Printers. There is a special circle of hell for fucking printers.

thepeopleversuswork · 09/10/2021 18:16

I also love love love being a single mum but I'm fucking awful at DIY so can't do it for shit. I'm a disgrace to the sisterhood.

So you're a better woman than I am!

😂😂 /\ /\ This is me all over….😂😂 I’d like it if there was somewhere too where people could register to offer to swap a skill for a skill in exchange….when the things I can’t do (no matter how hard I’ve tried) can be exchanged for something I can do plus maybe meet new people along the way & recommend on etc…can’t be that difficult to do surly?! Oh!! Just thought….I don’t do Facebook 😱😱 that’s my idea done for then 😂
