Appalling amount of time taken

I'm part way through divorcing my abusive husband and am not using a solicitor. Each letter/form I send takes months to get a reply from the courts (in one instance I waited 8 months).

The latest chapter is that I sent them a form in mid-June, which I've just received a reply to BUT they've dated their reply as August. In other words, this reply has sat in somebody's postal tray for more than 2 months before they've put a stamp on it and sent it back.

Is this length of time to reply normal for a divorce or AIBU?
Thanks for any replies. Any personal experiences of timescales very welcome.

Extra info: as my ex was abusive I've gone down the 5 years separation route, withheld my address and am trying to go for deemed service as the ex is whereabouts unknown in another country.

It is taking ages due to backlogs at family courts. I had my divorce finalised earlier this year, with solicitor sorting it all out, and yes it took ages to get court things done.

I can't remember time scales as I wasn't worried about it- I knew someone else was dealing with it! I think one bit I was told things were taking 4 months to get to the top of the pile at some point, but it ended up taking a lot longer.

I've had a really bad experience this week trying to get through to pay my fees. No one answers for ages, then I went through to the wrong department, I finally spoke to the right person & got cut off when he tried to make the Payment (he warned that this had been happening!). I have since made several more attempts with no joy!

Thanks all. Looks like I just have to suck it up as it sounds like lengthy waits are the norm. Really appreciate your input x
