Chickenpox? Sorry to post here but need the traffic 😳
I was diagnosed with shingles yesterday, feel like absolute shite today. My ds has never had chickenpox and the doctor was very adamant he's now high risk of catching it because of the shingles. The last week he's been complaining of tummy pain, and in the last two days a sudden chesty cough has appeared. Obviously I've no idea what the early signs of pox are, I just thought it was spots! Can anyone guide me ? Obviously don't want to send him to school Monday if he could be harboring it but at the same time maybe I'm just being paranoid because of the shingles ?
Thanks

Generally run down for a few days and then THE SPOTS.

There’s something funny about when chicken pox is contagious…. Either before or after the spots (helpful I know).

Hope you feel better soon

Slightly grotty for 24 hours then spots started appearing as far asI remember.

You can only get chickenpox from shingles if you are in direct contact with the weeping sores. Have you been keeping them covered? (If that is possible - obviously tough if they are in your face!)

I hope you feel better soon. Shingles is awful.

I assume you have ruled out COVID. Tummy pain can be a symptom of that.

Don’t think DS had any symptoms beforehand. He used to get heat rash the first few days of hot weather and we thought it was that when his spots first appeared!

My LO was grouchy for wks before and off her food (we were on holiday) , day after we landed the spots came out, lethargic, slightly raised temp.

DC had tummy pain and was generally under the weather 5 days before first spot appeared

whataglouriousthingtobe · 09/10/2021 11:05

No haven't ruled out Covid, we have some lft so will do one today.
The doctor made it sound like by me touching surfaces etc he'll be more likely to catch it. The rash is on my back but subconsciously I guess I'll be scratching it and stuff, just got to be careful. I have been sharing a bed with him this week too so that isn't going to help! I thought I had a couple of bites and by the next day they had multiplied !

Need to do a PCR if he has a cough. Can’t see school being too happy with you sending him in with an untested cough

HermioneAndRoger · 09/10/2021 12:10

How old is DS? Suddenly feeling unwell with a cough needs a Covid test IMHO.

I thought it was quite rare to catch chickenpox from shingles without direct contact with the rash.
