But I just want to register a Braun thermometer and think it's all a bit dodgy...

Just bought a Braun thermometer from Amazon (which I know is probably the issue) and finding it very frustrating to register/guarantee the product.
After several attempts of accessing UK websites, you are directed to a freephone number, then a message sends you through two more numbers, the ringtone suggesting USA connection before you speak with Steve an agent for 'Helen of Troy'-the company who look after Braun the brand....
All feels incredibly dodgy. Anyway, he says that you can't guarantee it online because that would breach GDPR??? But assures me that if in one year it fails, you go back to Amazon (the 'dealer') and within two years, you go to Helen of Troy....Honestly, it just seems a bit weird.

So can I ask if anyone how do we actually know these are genuine Braun products when Braun don't actually guarantee their products??

Are they all just fake and this is a way for Braun to absolve themselves of all responsibility??

You literally just go here: www.braunhousehold.com/en-gb/product-registration

russetbella1000 · 07/10/2021 09:29

That's exactly where I went.

However, you cannot register the product (thermometer)here.

For thermometers you have to call the number there and then go on a telephone goosechase until you end up with Steve in USA who represents 'Helen of Troy'....It's weird!

Tweet Braun and ask them. Usually, if you send a private message they'll respond though.

SusieBob · 07/10/2021 09:49

People actually register things they buy?

You know it doesn't actually make any difference to the guarantee and it's just to get your details for marketing purposes, right?

PinkFootstool · 07/10/2021 09:52

@SusieBob I'm not bothered. I registered a v expensive item with Philips which stopped working a year later. I got on the online chat, then received an envelope for the broken one two days later and the brand new and massively upgraded alternative was received four days after I contacted them. I'd uploaded the receipt to their website, so I didn't have to faff with anything. And I'm not on their mailing list so it worked for me!

russetbella1000 · 07/10/2021 09:54

I have tweeted Braun...Nothing.

Can't seem to post now...Is Mumsnet quarantining the messages now?

Have been trying to post but keeps disappearing?? ....If Braun were more transparent about this then I would be fine e.g if they communicated that yes actually after sales support is with this company called Helen of Troy then that would be fine but that isn't clear.

If I'm not actually buying from Braun then I may as well just go direct to the factory...

This is a common tactic especially on Amazon. Wait until you have to actually attempt to return the thing. Both companies will point you in the direction of the other and you’ll be running around in circles and will be lucky to get a replacement.

russetbella1000 · 07/10/2021 10:36

Exactly.

Braun and Amazon know exactly what they're doing and I guess we're just the pawns...So cynical and underhand.

Did you send them a private message on Twitter?

FourTeaFallOut · 08/10/2021 12:13

Helen of Troy? How weird? Has the ownership of the thermometer been kidnapped? Will Braun fight to get it back? And then not give much of a shit about it when it does?

russetbella1000 · 09/10/2021 10:02

Thanks @fortunefaves I've sort of run out of steam so I guess Braun know what they're doing...

Sounds so ridiculous it is probably true rather than a scam. Is it a very very beautiful thermometer?

OneTC · 09/10/2021 10:17

Helen of Troy it's just the parent company isn't it?
