Inspired by another thread. When I was at university there was an older lady who thought she was vair posh, was very keen to have her designer labels on display and loved name dropping brands into conversation. We had a group tutorial over lunch once, so we all ate together. This woman took a two foot (yes, literally) wooden salt and pepper mill out of her bag, stood up and started grinding pepper onto the shop bought sandwich she had with her. It was just the most pretentious thing ever, she was a "food snob" apparently 🤣
@CecilieRose Why don't you reply to him in Italian and watch his face?
And film it so we can all see his face

There’s a word for when people use a foreign word with the accent heavily pronounced. I can’t remember it but It was someone’s Room 101 years ago. It’s very funny.

@somewhereoverthechipshop

It was the year 2 Christmas nativity at my dd’s school about 10 years ago. My dd was playing a sheep lol. You had to queue to get in. A few of us turned up early to queue and bag front seats. We sat down at the front, only to hear the mother of the girl chosen to play Mary piping up in the row behind. She declared in a loud disparaging voice to a teacher that the front row should have been reserved for those parents whose child had a ‘key part’ 😂 how we laughed.
This is gold!

Love this thread. I’ve never heard anyone, ever, say ‘I’ve had sufficient’ (The toilet/loo spelling test story made me laugh out loud). I had a wonderful great aunt who pronounced piano ‘piaaaahnoh’ which always made us burst into fits of historical giggles.

I used to live on a very rough housing estate and my neighbour put two five foot high majestic stone lions either side of their front door, as if it was a National Trust mansion. Did contrast quite starkly with the mattress in the unmown front garden. All the visitors including delivery men used to comment on it.

Gotta say, I admire your former neighbour’s chutzpah!

I think that was Mel Giedroyc and I remember agreeing with her.

A clip was played with a woman who severely over uovo'd the Italian pronunciation.

A woman was giving me her address over the telephone, kept saying Saint Reatham High Road. I was totally stumped, kept saying I'd never heard of it. This went on for a while and I asked her to spell it for me. It was Streatham High Road!!!!!

@MsTSwift

Anecdotally friends and family that send their kids to private school always turn knobbish. I know they need to justify the vast outlay but the out of context wittering to state school parents about sport / Latin / mandarin / long school day makes me 🙄 and they definitely go right down in my estimation. Previously people I thought quite decent too. What am I supposed to say to that? Come back with how great my own kids are doing (cringe). End up smiling and nodding and internally demoting then to the “bit of a twat” category.
This this this 100x this
DoMyBest · 23/10/2021 10:16

You sure they’re not doing that (long school day) to say you got the better deal? Like the rant that you pay so much for private schools but then they have long holidays?

Tagcurious · 23/10/2021 13:38

@Ameanstreakamilewide You are an absolute genius. I’ve checked and it was Mel Giedroc. I have always wondered who it was. Thank you for reminding me.
