should we relocate?

So, we live offshore. Sold our house last year without having found anything to go to. Moved into rented (had to move out of one rented and into another). Over a year later we still can't find anything we like for the budget we have (which is healthy). In the interim, prices here have sky rocketed.

If we relocated to the SW of UK we could be mortgage free or have a very small mortgage. To get anything close to the same here we would need a mortgage of around 800k. That sum terrifies me.

But it means leaving friends and family. We would be starting again. We have two young DC (under 3).

The thought petrifies me. But it is also a chance for a change.

Some friends have said go for it, as you can always come back, but to come back the house prices would need to drop. Or we would need to severely lower our expectations. We could continue renting in the hope we strike gold here eventually, but we are in a non-child friendly flat with no outside space and it's hell. To rent a decent 3 bed here is around 2800 a month and we are just not willing to pay that - plus, s*ds law, the minute we signed for a year's rental, we'd find a house.

I'm scared of depriving my DC of being with their nan, aunts, uncle and cousins. Plus leaving our friends.

We have spoken to our employers and can both keep our jobs remotely.

Just don't know what to do for the best.

My mum always says "when in doubt, do nothing" but we feel we can't just sit doing nothing.

Would you relocate?

Hi OP.

Really sorry, haven't got much advice - I just wanted to bump this for you.

You could try getting the thread moved to the Property section where hopefully you'll get some more replies.
