AIBU to ask for your experiences of iron deficient toddler? Is it common?

DS had iron and ferritin levels that are half what they should be, but haemoglobin levels fine so doctors not concerned. Apart from being very fair with very pale skin and sometimes shadows under his eyes due to how pale he is (as am I, and his cousins so not sure that’s to do with iron!) he doesn’t have any symptoms at all and it was found by chance through routine bloods.

I’ve got him on a prescribed supplement now three times a day when I can get it into him but I was wondering what happens long term.

Presuming his stores go up once the supplement is finished is it likely he will come off it or will his iron levels then be likely to drop again?

The doctor didn’t really explain much and ummed and ahhed about giving him a supplement altogether as he said it’s very common with toddlers.

He eats very well and eats a fair amount of iron rich foods so I was quite surprised and am just wondering how it’s resolved with people who’ve had iron deficient toddlers previously.

Thanks for any advice!
