To reach boiling point with our arsehole neighbours?

We have one of the most ignorant and selfish families living next door to us. The sort that think they own the street - seem harmful enough on the surface but are pain in the arse for everyone else.

They're extremely loud, park across our drive or encourage visiting friends and family to; dump their paddling pool water in our garden, go in and out of our garden willy nilly to fetch kids toys that have been booted over.. you get the drift.

The latest arguments have been around a brick wall which we had built at the front of our house. My dad is a builder who did this for us; we only had to pay for the materials. One of them has drove a car into it causing the copings on top of the wall to lift and some of them have tyre marks on which we can't get off so will need replacing. They've refused to pay to re-bed them down; insinuating it should be free because my Dad is a builder. Completely ignorant to the fact he does have to work and therefore, would lose money doing this for us... for the 2nd time! He has already had to do it once before.

Today, I had an argument with one of them about jet washing our windows. They had been jet washing their drive all morning and clearly a load of muck had been sprayed at our windows so they thought they could quickly blast it off. I politely asked them to leave our stuff alone and was sniggered out with them saying "I don't think a bit of water is going to do any damage."

I got a bit arsy and that point and just told him to leave it the fuck alone.

AIBU? Am I being off the top or would you have done the same?

You’d complain if they left the windows filthy though so they were doing the right thing really

StoneofDestiny · 02/10/2021 16:25

What awful neighbours. Get a lock on your garden gate to stop them getting into your garden. If you have evidence they did knock your wall down and refuse to pay, sue them. In small claims court.
I'd not want them jet washing my windows either! They are clearly imbeciles.

If they drove into your wall, you should have gone through their car insurance and avoided dealing with them at all.

girlmom21 · 02/10/2021 16:30

Go through insurance for the wall.

YABU about the windows though. They couldn't win with that one.

I always thought jet washing a window was a no no! That it would potentially break the seal and the pane would break down. Is that a myth?

You need to pull them up on stuff each time until they get the message. I once had a big row with one of my ex neighbors after months of torment. After the row he was better. Some people get off on bullying others.
