Avoiding video chats and overloading on chinese food

Currently eating chinese to make myself feel better. Friend gave birth today and our group chat is quite active with pics, well wishes and plans to video chat later. I've passed on my well wishes and commented on the pics. However, I'm trying to avoid the video chats.

I suffered a miscarriage a few months ago and I'm very upset and stressed about this new arrival. This pregnancy hit me hard and I dont think I'd be able to keep happy during the video chat as everyone fawns over the new arrival. I am happy for my friend but I'm just not ready. We are still hurt by the fact that our first round of IVF ended in such a horrible way.

AiBU? Should I just get it over with?

YANBU at all. Mute the group chat for tonight/as long as you want. You can maybe video call your friend one to one in a couple of weeks if you feel ready.
Enjoy the Chinese. Flowers

Absolutely not unreasonable at all! I’m so sorry for your loss. Flowers

Yes mute it

Noogar · 01/10/2021 20:21

Sorry, YANBU, mute it

doadeer · 01/10/2021 20:22

Mute it. You absolutely shouldn't feel you have to get over it.... It's a hugely upsetting ordeal. Your friends should understand.

Thank you GrinSmile I think that's the best option .the group chat has been muted Flowers

I'll probably be asleep shortly or in a Chinese-induced coma Wink

Helping in the only way I can - I recommend curry loaded chips for if you want make mix it up a little. Chips, curry of choice, onion bhaji crumbled on top, mint sauce on top of all that. Flowers

You have given your congratulations and that is enough. Take care of yourselfnow. A good friend would understand. I am sorry for your loss.

SoapyChoc · 01/10/2021 21:15

Janaih · 01/10/2021 21:16

Yanbu to avoid video chats for any reason, they are excruciating.
I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

WhatAShilohPitt · 01/10/2021 21:19

Sorry that this is hurting you so much, OP. You don’t need to be part of the chats. Mute and comfort yourself with your Chinese and join in only when you feel you can. Keep it brief and it’s perfectly ok to cry after you end the call Flowers
