I find horrible as he's creepy but when he is pictured next to Sarah Everade it feels disrespectful.

I know some will just pile on but there's no need.

I agree- but I guess it’s the main current news item

I’m also absolutely cross that the met police have ‘issued safety advice to women’

Maybe just maybe they should start a massive campaign to tell men to stop abusing us. No it’s not ok at anytime in any situation from any man ever

SunshineCake1 · 01/10/2021 19:03

I know. Wave down a bus ffs.

It’s funny because the other when I started reading some of the news articles I thought to myself - why have my I seen this man pictured more?? Maybe their trying not to give him excess exposure. It was only when I scrolled down the article did his disgusting mug appear.
Now, I don’t read lots of news - tend to get it from the radio- so clearly I’ve masked him being splashed about.
I totally agree that he should not be shown next to her, ever.

AlternativePerspective · 01/10/2021 19:12

This story will have dropped off the news by the end of the weekend.

It’s the most prominent news item at the moment so it stands to reason that he will be shown.

But he’s started his sentence now, and apart from the enquiry this is unlikely to be mentioned again possibly ever, until he dies.

Noogar · 01/10/2021 19:15

Maybe avoid the news for a bit. I know what you mean though.

MrsWooster · 01/10/2021 19:27

I think the media should not name him any longer. Refer to him as ‘Sarah Everard’s murderer’ or the murderer. He doesn’t deserve to have a name.

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 19:34

I couldn't understand why so much coverage for her parents victim impact statement, I'm not sure how that helped anyone outside the court process

WandaVision2 · 01/10/2021 19:38

We need to stop using his name too

What a disgusting comment.
Autumngoldleaf · 01/10/2021 19:52

Agree but then if this was my dd I'd also not want her name used either it's so awful.
Not to give him publicity

Aside from all the obvious dreadful things he did I think one stand out is taking his dc to play near her body.

AlternativePerspective · 01/10/2021 21:13

@ Pottedpalm tbh I think it’s a difficult one.

On the one hand hearing her family’s statements and showing them again countless times could be meant to invoke empathy towards them, but on the other hand it does seem a bit voyeuristic.

lljkk · 01/10/2021 21:41

I don't think I've seen more than 4 pictures of WC. I almost posted I didn't know what he looked like but pretty sure I recall one pic from yesterday, and there were a few distinct things about his face.

Seems to me these pics can be avoided if you want.

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 21:58

Pottedpalm, what a horrible thing to say, i found it really hard to listen to, so I didn't, I thought it was deeply invasive

CaveMum · 01/10/2021 22:00

Sarah’s parents have explicitly asked the media not to use her photo alongside WC’s image. Naturally most of them are ignoring them.

It should be standard policy not to name serious offenders more than is absolutely necessary (refer to them by their initials if a name is needed) and certainly not to keep posting their image. There are plenty of sick people out there who want notoriety for serious crimes, by denying them the publicity they crave it might discourage even a small number, or at the very least deny them what they want.

I think it's initials, WC, suit it down to the ground, the stinking latrine that it is.

Statements they chose to make, that they wanted heard. Why should they be silenced? Of course it’s hard to hear.
SunshineCake1 · 02/10/2021 07:47

I wrote a witness impact statement and was adamant I was the one to read it. It was important for me to be heard. The bastard needed to know what he had done and it felt like justice, to go along with the fact he went to jail until he died. It was also difficult as I didn't want him to feel power that he had hurt me and caused decades of pain. It is a fine line.

BTW I realise I have spelt the persons name wrong. I couldn't face checking as I knew I would see his face again.

Slightly OT, but another police boss has spouted an appalling bit of victim blaming.

What logical hoops they're all leaping through to try and deflect from the institutional misogyny that has gone unchallenged.

This is truely shocking. One of the worst things said about this case by the police. Not sure where to even start with how wrong this is on many levels. Hope he is out of a job by Monday
MythicalBiologicalFennel · 02/10/2021 09:38

I understand OP. However society needs to look in the mirror and see the ugly truth - our society keeps producing men who kill women at a rate of 2 a week. However I suspect all the pictures are for shock value, to sell more papers and get more clicks Sad
