YABU - Mumsnet needs to make money
YANBU - they have ruined the site today and it's impossible to read anything

Not that they will let this post remain up I'm sure.....

I agree with you. It's not just today, it is most days now that I get an ad covering the whole page, making reading any threads or replying on them impossible.

As someone kindly advised me over on site stuff when I was having a pop at Mumsnet for using massive quantities of my data on shitty high def video ads last week.

Turn off JavaScript and, my addition, turning off third party cookies.

You can't post and half the buttons the site no longer work but you can read it. "See all" and "see next" doesn't work though, which is a bit of a bastard on a long thread but hey ho, if enough people only read and don't post because they can't be arsed to keep switching JavaScript on and off, Mumsnet will end up reaping what they sow, with fuck all user generated content for anybody to read.

HebalGerbil · 30/09/2021 17:52

In the twenty minutes I have been on here just, without switching JavaScript off so I can post, 110 MB of data used. No other tabs nor apps active.

I was on here the other day with JavaScript and third party cookies off, it used about 9mb for several hours.

Mumsnet thinks everybody is made of money for fast unlimited internet access.

I pay for premium as count cope with the flashing and flickering adverts with migraines. Don’t mind adverts can scroll past but fixed adverts bars with flashing stuff impossible.

GCAcademic · 30/09/2021 17:57

It's not just today, this has been going on for around a fortnight.

Sigh.

The first complaint about this, this month, was at least the 9th September. Multiple threads on Site Stuff - about a dozen now, I think.

Multiple screenshots and device/browser details sent by multiple posters over three weeks.

It's very odd.

Vates · 30/09/2021 18:19

Yeah, it literally blocks out entire posts. What's the point?

Vates · 30/09/2021 18:19

*I mean the point of the adverts that are huge!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 30/09/2021 18:23

You don't need to turn off Javascript, it's really not a good idea to do that anyway. Install an adblocker, I get no ads at all.

amillionrosepetals · 30/09/2021 18:30

Newspaper websites are even worse, I can never read anything on them because the excess adverts make the website freeze.

PinkFootstool · 30/09/2021 18:34

I used it on my laptop for the first time in years this week. Absolutely horrific. I'll stick to my phone from now on....

SheABitSpicyToday · 30/09/2021 18:36

It’s how they get you to pay for premium. They make the free version basically unusable.

ThatLibraryMiss · 30/09/2021 18:56

You need a blocker. If you run Chrome, Easy AdBlocker's good. This is what I see with it.
