Best friends as an adult

I used to have a best mate of many many years but she really let me down/ lied to me so we fell out & haven’t spoken in 3 years.

I really miss the friendship but not her if that makes sense. I have a wide circle of friends but I miss having the closeness of a best mate - despite the fact that she behaved badly.

I always advise my DD 9 that it’s better to have a wide circle of friends rather than an intense one friend. Yet I can’t seem to take my own advice & miss it myself.

Aibu & should take my own advice & be happy that I have lots of friends & a wide network. I feel lonely sometimes as I see others who still have that type of friendship.

Anyone got any advice/ thoughts? At 48, am I too old to develop new good friendships?

For me I have more of a close circle of friends that I'm more open with to an extent on certain topics, then I have a lady friend who I'm also open with but with different sets of knowledge and perspectives, I prefer to compartmentalize all my perspectives depending on the person I'm talking to, rather than all eggs in one basket so to speak.
