Petrol shortage

I know I'm probably being unreasonable but I'm so angry and upset.

DH in hospital following a stroke, DS in hospital following traumatic brain injury. Separate hospitals. Life has been incredibly stressful as a result.

DSS lives in Surrey and was due to move in with us in North East today. As he can WFH and he's therefore giving up his life and friends to come and support me and be near his Dad. He cannot get fuel anywhere. All stations are closed.

I am devastated. If you're one of the greedy idiots who decided to fill your car up "just in case" please consider how you might have affected others who really need it.

Rant over. Sorry I'm just feeling incredibly sorry for myself as I was so looking forward to him coming.

Could he come by train, and then collect his car when all this is over?

AlexaShutUp · 28/09/2021 12:41

I'm sorry OP. That sounds really difficult. Your dss sounds ace but it's shit that he can't get petrol. I hope that he can get to you soon and that you are able to get the support that you need. Flowers

That’s so so awful - I’m so sorry. .There will be fuel soon. Also if he signs up to an app like Nextdoor he can find out from his neighbours etc which garages have fuel. It’s usually a case of finding out and queuing for 20-40 mins (I’m in centralish London which is bearing the brunt - so Surrey should be easier). Hope you get to see him soon and that your DH and DS regain their health

londonrach · 28/09/2021 12:48

I'm sorry your having a terrible time and your DSS sounds amazing. We've lots of petrol in midland s today so might be worth rechecking ..I got some today without queuing which means I can continue to see my patients at their homes rather than cancel them which at beginning of week looked likely. Hope your DH and Ds better soon x

imonlyhooman · 28/09/2021 12:49

@Seeline yes possibly but he's packed his car and his tenancy is due to end today so he would then have to find somewhere safe to leave car full of stuff.

He could try posting on local Facebook groups or ringing petrol stations and explaining the situation. They may let him know when a delivery is expected.

It's crap. It's really crap. And I'm sorry this is happening.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 28/09/2021 13:05

It’s really rubbish, I’m sorry.

I’m not in Surrey but all our petrol stations have been closed for days. The only way to get fuel here is to be at the petrol station for their early morning delivery. It’s a queue; but it works. He could phone a few petrol stations to see when they are next expecting fuel - they typically get morning deliveries between 6 - 8:30, but it won’t be daily for all of them.

I'm so sorry things sound tough for you all.

Has he enough fuel to drive his stuff to a local storage place?

The media were highly irresponsible to panic people.

CraftyGin · 28/09/2021 13:08

I am in Surrey and both stations I passed today were open. Sainsbury's actually had spaces on the forecourt. The other had about 6 cars queuing on the road.

RogueV · 28/09/2021 13:09

This is shit OP
But it will probably be back to normal in a few days.
Everything crossed for you.
