Where to go when bankruptcy ends?

garfieldlover · 27/09/2021 17:00

Is it unreasonable to think that I'll never get back on the straight again?
I'm finished paying whatI owed.
I have a surplus now each week. Will a bank deal with me? What is the fastest way to get a good credit score again?
To add, bankruptcy was the very last resort for me.I have just about existed for the last number of years.

Well done you, it must have been tough but you have seen it through and probably learned some really valuable lessons about money that most of the rest of us would do well to understand too.

Do you belong to a trade union? Many TU have access to financial advisors for members.

Thank you. I'm not a Member of a trade union unfortunately.

Well double bankruptee is now a mayor of large city so you will be fine.

I am pretty sure money saving expert will have an advice. You will just probably have to start at basics with some of the shitty credit score building cards with £10 limit, but it then gets better over time.

This is likely to be me and dh soon due to the cladding scandal- we're just waiting for the massive fire safety repair bill for our building and then we'll have to go bankrupt as we can't afford it. Well done for keeping going through it. Money saving expert has good advice about credit building cards etc.

You can probably get a basic bank account with no overdraft to pay bills, and a savings account. Have a look on the internet for ones that would let you open an account & what they offer.

I agree with others about Money Saving Expert having lots of good advice.

I second (or third) the advice about MoneySavingExpert. I was able to get a Vanquis credit card almost immediately after my bankruptcy ended, and then a Barclaycard initial visa shortly after that. I continued to use my Barclays basic account and they eventually converted it to some other account type and gave me an overdraft without me having to ask. This was a few years ago.
