Auditory halluncinations on propanol

Has anyone else had them. Or is it in my imagination. My sleep is becoming worse and worse. And no ear plugs don't help.

I had horrible wake up in a sweaty mess nightmares on propanol, which is listed as a common side effect. They stopped completely when I came off it. So bizarre. I never experienced auditory hallucinations though but it wouldn't surprise me considering the craziness it spurred up in my dreams.

Oh, just seen the update. @Spidey66 will likely know more about it (as a professional) but I guess it's still possible to get a new symptom of the original condition. Although you said stopping the Propananol stopped the hallucinations so maybe not...

@Herecomesspring1

I take 40mg as and when required for anxiety attacks, it does give me bad dreams. I also get song lyrics on repeat in my head in my sleep - they usually stop when I wake up and get out of bed. Having song lyrics on repeat over and over is fairly normal for me when I'm anxious (day or night), it's pretty mentally draining to be honest.

Although, last week I woke up to The Birdie Song on repeat in my head and I literally said out loud, 'of fuck off, now you're just taking the piss!' Grin

Hi I have never had that before this medication. It's like a bloody radio turn the shit off!!! Arghh. Was making me ill. I can't cope with it

Oh my gosh, I had this for a few years then it disappeared. I was taking propanolol at the time but never linked the two things - I thought I was just temporarily insane and never told anyone!

@Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed

It really does drive me nuts. When I'm deep in the belly of anxiety I literally don't stop hearing it. But it's just one or two lines of a song. On repeat. Over and over. FOREVER. It makes me feel more insane than I'm actually feeling. Like a vicious circle.

I do have to say however, if I take the tablets during the day, they do work wonders. They're just not good for me before bedtime. If I wake up in the night with palpitations I will take one and go back to sleep but then the bad dreams will start. Can't win really, can we! Smile

This post has made me feel a bit better in the sense that I'm no longer the only one who experiences this.

I take qatiapine and was having auditory hallucinations from them now I’ve lowered them from 600 to 200 they have stopped I lowered them due to upping lithium and not needing the higher dose

I don't know how I would react during the day. I think I'm best of stopping them. Im glad it's worked out for you 🙂

@Spidey66

Sorry I see you've kind of answered my question ie you're not taking quetiapine for a previously diagnosed psychotic illness. At least I think that's what you mean. Why are you taking quetiapine?

Sorry for focusing on this....im a mental health nurse and trying to establish, as I suspect @ladyoflittleleisure is, wether this is part of an underlying mental health issue x

Hi it was for voices and sleep issues. But I never heard music before ever. As long as the voices aren't saying self harm etc. No one is really bothered!

Tbh i think its just the underlying mental health issue rather than a side effect of the medication, but discuss with your GP/psychiatrist
