Posting for traffic:

My DM has just told me that my DF had a series of scans Monday, due to some swelling and pain, that combined with weight loss, tiredness etc,

At the end of the conversation DM then told me that the hospital have set up an appointment with a consultant for Monday coming, he only had the scans Monday just gone, this means bad news doesn’t it? DM didn’t think to ask what the name of the consultant was abs rather unhelpful that the appointment is being held in out patients so it’s not as if I can determine what kind of consultant with be seeing my DF.

Can anyone with any experience with this kind of thing give me an idea of what to expect, only, I know that the NHS is pressured and they wouldn’t be causally asking him to drop by for non serious results a week after the scan would they?

With those symptoms, he will be under the two week wait pathway. This doesn't mean it definitely is cancer, but it means it's something they need to rule out. So it doesn't mean the scan results are definitely bad - but some people with those symptoms will have cancer and will need to be seen urgently.

Thank you @DuckWithOneWing, worried sick for my poor DF, and my DM who seems very naive with everything r she could be putting on a brave face,

I guess I just need to know how I can help both is the worst comes to the worst

OP, it doesn't necessarily mean the worst. Both my mum and I have had tests under the two week cancer pathway then an appointment very quickly after the tests to tell us what was wrong and in both cases it wasn't cancer or indeed anything life threatening.

I sincerely hope it's the same for your dad.

Cross that bridge if and when you come to it. As it stands there is nothing to suggest a serious illness, just an appointment to discuss scan results.

It doesn't confirm or deny anything sinister, it just means they need to do some more tests or to talk through what, if anything, they've found. They could have had a cancellation that allows your DF to be seen quicker. Unfortunately you won't know until they've had the appointment.

If your parents would like, they can ask the consultant to write down what they've talked about in the appointment so they can check back on any details they may have forgotten. That will help if your DF is referred elsewhere too.

Do update us if you need any support, we'll be here.

There is no point in worrying.
Get your head around being strong and positive for your parents and leaving the hand holding for when you actually know if there is something to be concerned about.this needs to be about them just now.
I very much hope that will goes very well well for you all.🌈💐
