Trying to get home from holiday today and nowhere we’ve tried has petrol. Does anyone know where there is an open one?

Thanks!

Birmingham is massive....

Gorl · 25/09/2021 12:12

I am aware, but since I need to get home to Scotland today I’m happy to go where needed.

Have you tried Selly Oak Sainsbury’s? I saw them refilling from the tanker last night.

tttigress · 25/09/2021 13:05

Are you actually in Birmingham? Are you approaching from the motorway?

CoffeeRunner · 25/09/2021 13:07

If nowhere else you'll probably find some on the motorway. It'll be expensive but less likely to have queues of panic buyers!

Gorl · 25/09/2021 13:07

Thanks, will try Sainsbury’s and motorway! Currently in kings Heath itself.

Also, the petrol stations in Lichfield are all open with only minor queues apparently. Although that would be a right faff as you'd have to go there on the A38 then go out of your way to get back to the motorway.

Gorl · 25/09/2021 13:23

Thank you so much. We don’t mind a bit of faff if it means we can get home so good to know!

There’s another garage just down the road from Sainsbury’s that’s usually well prepared for this sort of situation too - think it’s Shell. Follow signs to QE hospital & you can’t miss it

My Husband has just picked up our new car south of London and is driving back up to Scotland today too. He has past lots of petrol stations closed already which is really worrying. Please keep me posted if you manage to get petrol while passing Birmingham as this will be near his running out of fuel mileage... xxx

I used the "busyness" graphs on google maps to find out where to go last night. At that time most were showing levels around their midday peak. If the bar was very quiet, then it was closed. Forecourts were busy but not queuing onto roads.
