It’s my father in laws 70th soon and we don’t know what to get him. We have got him a book thing that we’ve been filling in with the kids but we have struggled to get something else. He’s very active, never sits still but doesn’t garden or anything like that. Also loves the tv!
What have you got your dads or FIL for their seventieth? X

Would he like an experience day or anything like that?

EatYourVegetables · 24/09/2021 20:35

A can of petrol?

I bought mine a posh chainsaw. You’re welcome 😅

A meal out

longtompot · 24/09/2021 20:42

We bought my dad a table saw for his 70th. He's always been very handy with the diy and after he retired he needed one as he used to use the one at his work if he needed to.

Bought my fil a day out on a steam train (went from York to Scarborough) had brunch on train, fish and chips in Scarborough and then champagne and nibbles on return. He loved it.

Binoculars and a book about bird watching?

pelosi · 24/09/2021 20:46

Get him a super warm fleece hoodie with pockets.

I gave Uniqlo hoodies to lots of people last winter as presents and they all bloody loved them!

SmileyClare · 24/09/2021 20:49

It depends on your budget and his likes and dislikes.

A new tv? A flat cap hat, those ones that look like farmer hats are quite trendy? I gave my dad a bottle of whisky for his 70th.

Every front page of a newspaper of his birthdate each day from the year he was born bound into a book.

Something for his clay pigeon shooting. Every Christmas we renew his birds weekly subscription. It may not be bird weekly but something like that, the feathered kind. He's a man of few hobbies.

I was having a similar dilemma except with my dad who turns 70 in the new year. Not a bloody clue what to get him.

Was thinking of possibly getting him an experience day, was going to suggest a meal out/family and close friends gathering but my sister and I are NC and there is no way in hell I am doing all the hard work for her to reap the credit for it (has form).

However all plans currently on hold as his brother is dying so I strongly suspect he will not want to celebrate and any plans to do so will end up doing more harm than good.

So I will probably end up with gift vouchers for him to do his hobby

A flight simulator session
Hot air balloon ride
Glider flight

I got my dad some Sonos wireless speakers for his 70th. It was what he wanted 🤷🏻‍♀️
