Bozo is begging in Brazil. AIBU to say we've swapped EU for FU

Bolsover, president of Brazil, says Bozo asked for produce for the UK. We've got worker shortages, food shortages, an energy crisis, petrol shortages and a Christmas turkey crisis? Is Brexit a success? Who could possibly have predicted this?

That's not "begging" it's "trading".

Although if he could beg some HGV drivers that might help.

longwayoff · 24/09/2021 15:30

Is it? What will UK give in exchange? Spare politicians?

I'm anti Brexit and think the whole thing is set to be a total shit show for years to come but the UK embassy has denied those claims. Do you mean Bolsanaro? I am surprised Boris met with him tbh. He has been totally irresponsible in handling Covid in Brazil resulting in thousands and thousands of deaths. He has also made some very dubious comments about gay men and is massively mysogynistic. Not to be trusted!

I'm not surprised he met with him. BJ is a fascist.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 24/09/2021 15:49

Well, Biden said no thanks to a us/UK free trade agreement didn't he? So Boris has got to explore other options.
I think a lot of people are surprised just how unimportant the UK is globally. It was all we're a SUPERPOWER! they need us more than we need them. Sun never sets. Rule Britannia. blah blah blah.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/09/2021 15:53

But Bolsanaro still met with him.

But don't worry, we've MADE BRITAIN GREAT AGAIN 🙄🙄

longwayoff · 24/09/2021 16:11

Bloody spellchecker, how come you all got Bolsanaro through and I finished up with Bolsover? Yes, that's who I meant. The Man from Del Monte. Not sure I want to buy food that doesn't meet EU standards. I predict Linda McCartney will have a boom year, assuming there's food in the shops for Christmas.

10/10. Maybe 11.
TooBigForMyBoots · 24/09/2021 16:30

YANBU @longwayoff. BJ has been looking very uncomfortable and on the back foot. The Brexit pigeons are coming home to roost. Covid has hastened and exacerbated the repercussions.

Bundttin · 24/09/2021 16:39

Yes ok, not much between Boris and Bolsanaro! Grin

Am no fan of BJ at all but Brazil had arguably the worst pandemic policy and response to Covid on the planet. I know the UK's response hasn't been great but his was truly calamitous.

@Bundttin, surely Johnson is a chip off Bolsanaro's old block in all these respects?

shouldistop · 24/09/2021 16:58

Is it? What will UK give in exchange? Spare politicians?

Presumably we'd give money in return?

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/09/2021 17:03

I thought it very hypocritical of Boris. To go to Climate Change meeting, then to US to discuss climate change and how nations need to do more to protect the environment.

Then next stop is to ask Brazil to ship the UK produce? WTAF? Most UK produce used to come from the EU. It’s a much smaller carbon footprint to send produce from mainland Europe to a European Island than it is to fly or ship produce halfway around the planet!

It is the exact opposite of working to reduce carbon emissions. Which he was lecturing the US on just days before and making promises to world leaders just weeks before. Total hypocrite.

^This 100%. Approaching Bolsanaro smacks of desperation to me. After all his boasting during the Brexit campaign that other countries would be queuing up for a trade deal with the UK.

The reality is totally different.

I'm not sure why you would expect Boris to remember what he said the day before, that is most unfair of you. I mean a day is actually quite a long time before he has to make a u-turn, some have been much quicker.
longwayoff · 25/09/2021 13:10

Anyway, mini Armageddon here, petrol, shortages etc. Where is Boz? Has he said anything about current events? Or Raab, esteemed deputy PM, last heard of fighting with Truss over his grace and favour country house. Have they noticed?

Very much agree with this. Especially after BoJo's talks with Joe Biden.

rocklamp · 25/09/2021 13:20

Scraping the bottom of the barrel there isn't he?

They all make me sick. When is this 70esque mess going to be fixed?

Jarstastic · 25/09/2021 14:22

There’s no point in criticising Bolsanaro when we have Johnson.

Why shouldn’t we have a trade deal with Brazil. I, for one, would love some Brazilian pineapple right now.

Don’t believe everything you read in the papers, especially the Guardian. They hate Bolsanaro and he’s an easier target than Trump. Check out the actual data on World in Data. Brazil late to start vaccinating then at a tremendous rate. sometimes over 2 million a day.
