Trick or treating this year

Just thinking ahead to Halloween.

I've asked my ex to return my daughter early from his contact weekend so that I can take her trick or treating. No problems there, all fine.

But it's got me thinking. Are people taking their children out this year?

It was quite sad last year to not see the excited children, and I know my daughter really missed going.

Obviously we'd only stick to houses that had pumpkins/decorations etc but I'm keen to find out how many people on here are planning on going.

I guess my AIBU is in my thinking around things perhaps going back to normal pre-COVID.

We didn't last year, but will this year. Every dc in the village goes to the same school on the same minibus so I'm inclined to think they will give covid to each other if they have it anyway.

Same - we didn't last year but are planning it this year!

I am. Last year we did the walk around and if you see a pumpkin give your kids sweets you’ve bought yourself (would not be doing it again this year it was ridiculous 😬)

I hope it is back this year, even though I think my DC are too old now.
It used to be the highlight of their year (probably only topped by Xmas or their birthday).
Lovely to see children out in their costumes.

What a lot of the village around here last year was put the sweets etc on the front wall, tied bags in a tree, stuck lollies in pumpkins so the kids could do it from a distance

A few of them have said about doing the same this year

Plenty of kids in our neighbourhood went last year.

Nope.

We moved this year, so no idea what it's like for trick or treating here. Where we lived before there were a few houses on the crescent who'd go all out, so we'd just go to them and they'd come to us. This year we're down a small cul de sac with no other kids, so not expecting much. Which is a shame.

Halloween is my favourite day of the year 🎃 last year I tied string between 2 trees o my front garden and pegged bags of haribo up for children to take, but not knock (we made a sign saying no knocking). It worked really well - we could see children from the window enjoying our display and taking a treat each. I think I'll do the same this year but will take DS and DD out as well to see houses. It's DD's birthday on Halloween too so we always have plenty of treats if houses aren't participating :)
