The Organised Mum Method Journal

I'll start this by saying I love TOMM - it is such a simple method but has helped me so much. Love Organised Christmas etc and find Gem interesting and fun.

But...I'm a little bit disappointed by the Journal that came out today. It is on 'book' paper rather than 'notebook' paper and not spiral bound but bound like a normal hard back book so won't stay open at a page. I have the 1st 2 books and all the print outs so it was only really the 'journal' I bought it for rather than the information. Of course I could buy any old journal but I wanted to show my support and appreciation for the method by buying the journal! Also each month has 4 weeks of journal pages - which is fine for February... Is it just me or does anyone else have it and feel a little disappointed?

I'm going to say YABU because I've just looked up TOMM and the little tick box list cleaning jobs I could easily write on a notebook myself. Why do people need a book for this? I feel like TOM, Stacey Solomon with her Tap to Tidy and Mrs Hinch are a fad to be honest. It's good if they inspire you to clean or whatever but they're just piling on a new trend of influencers cleaning. IMO.

Yes, as I said I could easily write it myself and you can print the checklists for free. TOMM has be going for ages, though way before Mrs Hinch and while Mrs Hinch is fun, TOMM is a proper method which I need as routines work best for me.

I haven't had a proper look yet but yes it's a shame it's not on more workbook-like paper I think and spiral bound - that would lend itself better to the format I think. I'm a bit worried that if I write on it with my favourite pen, it will bleed through the paper.

TOMM is amazing, it has literally changed our lives, so like you I wanted to show some appreciation! I'm going to have a proper look through this weekend - I thought I might get some use of the meal-planning and TOTT stuff at least.

What else is in there that’s not on the app or print outs?

SylvanasWindrunner · 24/09/2021 15:38

It's not really information like the books, it's for filling out – basically a diary – so there's nothing 'new' in it to learn, but the idea is you use it to plan your week. I thought it might be useful as my meal planning atm is just in a note on phone and then I have the app for the cleaning stuff and then my phone calendar for other life stuff so I thought maybe it would be good to have everything in one place and I am a sucker for writing in a journal (for a week and then forgetting about it).

But it is a bit of an odd hybrid between a hardback book and a diary.

"but bound like a normal hard back book so won't stay open at a page"

I laughed at that.
Every book will stay open if you crack the spine of it and flatten it out.

@SylvanasWindrunner - yes, I think biro rather than a more 'bleedy pen'! I will make use of it - I actually really like the layouts.

@Seesawmummadaw - there is some information about using the TOMM and TOTT systems that would be useful if you haven't read Gemma's first 2 books. The journal bit is an alternative to the apps really, although it has a shopping list/meal planner.

@mumda - I feel I can't crack the spine of a real book!! Blush I think I need some of those little bulldog clips!!
