To wonder why some people mention name change?

I have noticed some questions on here which include “name change as I don’t want to out myself”. Is anyone paying attention to the name change and wondering who they are? AIBU to think it isn’t necessary to say this?

If you don't you're bound to have a poster search for your previous posts then come out with "interesting first post OP " which tends to derail the thread.
