Is doTerra an MLM?

I have a friend whose sister is massively into this & tries to mention it / promote it constantly
The company now has a big warehouse in our city & I saw ads for it on the side of a bus yesterday.
It got me thinking - is it dodgy or am I just assuming the worst?

Yep, MLM.

Bells3032 · 22/09/2021 10:40

yep. it was park of young living originally and then split

misskatamari · 22/09/2021 10:40

I'd not heard of them before, just googled. Holy shit - the prices!!! flipping heck, get down to Holland and Barratt people! Absolute madness. These companies are such a disgrace

hairybakers · 22/09/2021 10:41

Yep. A friend of mine really got into it a couple of years ago, EVERYTHING could be solved with one of her oils.
Funnily enough she hasn't mentioned dit much recently so perhaps she's seen the light.

So overpriced.
Clove oil - £15
Same clove oil in boots - £3

NalPolishRemover · 22/09/2021 10:43

@hairybakers - sounds exactly like this person I know- EVERYTHING can be fixed with an oil.....if only....

Yes, very much an MLM. And very much dodgy.

Nothing wrong with liking essential oils instead of wax melts or something. But their whole ideology seems to prey on the weak and they advertise things such as "this oil will help with your cancer" and "use this combination to help with infertility". In short, it's disgusting!

Don't get me started on the whole literal pyramid scheme of it all!! Makes my blood boil every time some poor (usually woman, usually mum!) tries to make a living from it, these companies need to be stopped!

Rant over 😂

LeopardPrintTits · 22/09/2021 10:59

Definitely an MLM, even if she says it isn’t! Try not to get involved - I read that over 95% of people involved with MLMs lose money!

FelicityPike · 22/09/2021 11:07

Very! Very dodgy.

VeganCheesePlease · 22/09/2021 11:09

Yes, I've a friend who did it for a while and she would look so condescendingly at my H and B oils because hers are much better, you know. It's all she would talk about!

VienneseWhirligig · 22/09/2021 12:34

I watched a documentary series on Prime at the weekend called LulaRich, about an MLM selling leggings. Very interesting about how they make their money and the dubious practices.

Its the purest of the pure dont you know! Grin

Strawbsaturno · 22/09/2021 12:39

Yes I had a friend who did it, the prices are shocking. There were lots of videos about how certain emotional catastrophe’s had been avoided by using certain oils. Funnily enough she’s not pushed them in ages.

Evesgarden · 22/09/2021 12:40

I actually went to a friends house who was doing a demo and I had that many oils put on my wrist and sniffed so many different types I was so bloody ill driving home!

Absolutely. Its supposed to cure every thing and cured a dogs brain cancer. This is what I actually got told.
JingsMahBucket · 22/09/2021 12:48

It’s another Mormon MLM.

TemptedToSleepInTheShed · 22/09/2021 17:21

Looks good

SecretWitch · 22/09/2021 17:25

It is very much a MLM scam. My friend was/is still very much into their oils as cure for many woes. She was using their Thieves Oil cleaner and I commented on how much I love the scent. She eagerly connected me to the website. The price of the cleaner was $48 (usd). I looked at the list of ingredients and managed to buy everything for less than $15.

marykitty · 22/09/2021 17:29

Yes

Myfilterisbroken · 29/09/2021 14:06

Yes it is. I like a small company called oil fraction which is much cheaper and not an mlm

supercritter · 29/09/2021 14:13

Had clients who asked me to use doterra for their massage and always gave me a headache. They also say to use internally which is not good general advice and sellers are not usually trained well

Lightswitch123 · 29/09/2021 14:29

Super dodge. Avoid

M0nica44 · 29/09/2021 15:12

@JingsMahBucket

It’s another Mormon MLM.
