To wonder if they serve the food alive?

I come across this place when I was looking at property www.liveseafood.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/menu-final.pdf

Do they serve the seafood on a plate/platter alive? This really sits uneasy with me even though I eat (supermarket frozen) fish.

www.liveseafood.co.uk/

The actual website might help! Looks like you choose live and they cook it for you. I'm not sure there would be much of a market for eating still alive fish tbh.

10yearwarranty · 21/09/2021 21:19

Well, it doesn't appeal to me at all, but the menu talks about steamed, braised etc so how could it be alive?

RainbowBriteUk · 21/09/2021 21:20

Some of the menu says live though!

and in Japan, sometimes they serve and cut a fish alive on the table. Poor thing is gasping for air while people are waiting to eat it.

It says in big letters WE COOK IT FOR YOU.

I wouldn't eat it but plenty of places where you chose your lobster / see the prawns alive first. As long as it is dispatched properly I can't see the difference between that and your supermarket fish.

TigerDroveAgain · 21/09/2021 21:22

Of course they don’t although some things could be raw eg oysters.

But this took me all of, ooh I don’t know, three seconds to find on their website:
CHOOSE THE SEAFOOD YOU WANT FROM OUR TANKS, AND WE COOK THEM FOR YOU! GREAT TASTE!

We offer a great choice of sashimi from all live shellfish and live fish. Or you can have them cooked in Cantonese Style or Sichuan Style. Great selection of cooking methods, you choose and we cook them.

You choose the seafood live from their tanks and then they cook it for you according to their website

Oh that's good then. I was imagining a poor fish gasping for breathe waiting to be eaten.

In China, we were taken to a live fish restaurant where you could choose creatures from tanks. They even had an axolotl. We had our own hob each and a pan full of stock/soup and veg and meat were brought out and you cooked them yourself. Fine until they brought out prawns that were still wiggling. They were already on kebab sticks and you were supposed to plunge them into the hot stock to cook them. I couldn't bear it.😢

So you had to pay a restaurant and cook your own meal? Fuck that!
Brollywasntneededafterall · 21/09/2021 22:00

They do serve a fish in one county that is barely cooked so it is still alive... While you eat it...
Fucking grim.

Gasping for air? Grin You know they live in water, right?....

Buddha jumps over the wall (named because it was so good it encouraged a Buddhist monk to jump over the monastery wall to join in the meal) contains lots of seafood, pork, mushrooms etc. cooked in a clay pot in a Chinese brandy type sauce.

Theworldisquiethere · 21/09/2021 22:19

You do realise that all seafood was alive before being cooked and eaten…

Table for 2 please 😁
XenoBitch · 21/09/2021 22:28

It is a UK site... I am sure anywhere serving a living creature for you to eat would be in big trouble.
It sounds like whatever you order might be alive at the time, but obviously cooked and dead when it arrives on your plate.

XenoBitch · 21/09/2021 22:31

To add... anything very recently killed that has something like soy sauce put on it will often twitch and look very much alive (there are tons of videos on Youtube of squid and octopus trying to "escape" plates.).

thatllberight · 21/09/2021 22:33

You do realise your frozen supermarket fish was also once a living breathing creature?
