Shamelessly posting for traffic - although open to all Ludlow gossip and info too

DH would like to go to Ludlow for a "surprise" birthday treat - as in "he knows and I know" but I have to do the booking!

Lovely MN - have you any recommendations, tips or places to avoid? Planning long weekend with aim to be good food, wine/beer, relaxation and sights?

Not a "special" occasion but chance to get away and enjoy each other's company

I liked Ludlow a lot when visited. There's a lovely restaurant by the river I think it's called Cafe on the Green.

This is the place! Friend were there a few weeks ago on our recommendation and said it's still great

There's a castle and historic city walls, old streets with cute shops. And a market. Could defo while away an adult weekend there.

Make sure you visit The Buttery. Lovely cafe. Also pop down to the weir. Clee Hill if you like walking. The castle is wonderful to walk around. Look at the feathers for an evening meal. Have you anywhere to stay yet? I'd always recommend Fishmore Hall as had my wedding reception there! There are a few michelin star restaurants. They're all good.

Wow thanks for responses so far!

Nowhere booked yet re accommodation or meals but feel I need to get sorted as planning early/mid Oct (before half term)

@NoSquirrels and @RadioPenguin Fishmorehall looks exactly what looking for - thank you

I took my mum for afternoon tea for her birthday at Fishmore Hall in the summer, it was very nice.

Ludlow is a lovely little town. Nice shops to potter round. Our activities there are more child than adult oriented so I don't have much more for nice recommendations but we also go to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre for a nice walk and a good bit of cake!

Shirazboobaloo · 21/09/2021 21:39

Cake always a good thing - irrespective of age! Thanks @DappledThings

Ludlow is fabulous! One of my most favourite places. There is a market there, outside the castle, most days of the week & it's well worth having a mooch around. Lovely cheese shop. Lovely restaurants - Csons is very nice. We stayed at Downton Lodge which is absolutely fabulous. Have a look on Trip Advisor for other ideas too.
