Alcohol while bf

I'm having a night out on Friday my 1st in 4 years. I've been breastfeeding for the past 4 years so haven't really drank. A few sips on the odd occasion.
DS2 is now 2 years old. Would having a few drinks (about 4?) harm him in anyway?

Totally fine to have a drink. But if you haven’t had more than a few sips in 4 years I’d go easy - you’ll have no tolerance for drink!

UmbilicusProfundus · 21/09/2021 20:22

Totally fine. There is more alcohol in apple juice even if you were to get smashed off your face. But I’m sure some will say it’s not worth the risk. Why not just have a break from breastfeeding for 12 hours if you are worried. It’s not like you have a newborn.

Lsjdjfjdh · 21/09/2021 20:25

Definitely fine! Every so often at a weekend I'd have a couple of small glasses of wine when breastfeeding and mine was much youngrr than that.

User0ne · 21/09/2021 20:25

It'll be fine. Alcohol transfers really badly through breast milk. As long as you aren't trollied it won't be an issue.

FTEngineerM · 21/09/2021 20:26

It’s totally fine.
The blood alcohol level is the same as the milk so whatever ‘percentage’ your blood is, you milk will be too.

For your blood, and therefore milk, to be 0.5% you’d be dead.
For your blood, and therefore milk, to be 0.1% you’d be ‘significantly impaired’.

There’s a handy chart here: www.sciencedirect.com/topics/biochemistry-genetics-and-molecular-biology/blood-alcohol-content

Yeah thats what I was thinking ill be out for about 6 hours so it'll be like a drink per hour and then 2 hours drink free to process it out? Ds still night feeds atm planning on taking it easy though if I feel tipsy then no more 🤣

Don't Co sleep. That's about it

EatYourVegetables · 21/09/2021 20:51

Don’t cosleep and be careful if you have to lift the toddler etc. Your milk will be fine.

DecorChange · 21/09/2021 21:19

The no co sleeping is that still a thing if they are over 1? At what age would you sleep in a bed with a child if you had been drinking?

Never through choice.

My four year old has a habit of sneaking into our bed in the middle of the night though, and I'm not forgoing my Weekend G&T on the off chance that she does.

DecorChange · 21/09/2021 21:27

So would you say if your not drunk and had you last drink a while before bed it would be OK? I have his cot next to our bed with the side off. So he's not really in our bed. Would that be OK?

If you can differentiate between the baby's head and arse to feed it you're sober enough to.

Honestly the amount of alcohol in your milk will tiny.
