AIBU and over sensitive about the following comments made to me:

You look funny in a face mask (I was wearing a standard NHS mask)
You look funny in a woolly hat (I had on a plain knitted type hat)
You've got a long neck
Your singing is awful (now a standing joke amongst my friends)

why should I be [perceived to look any different to anyone else waring a standard type facemask ?

More info needed. Are these all from the same person? People you care about?

If they’re comments from different random people I’d just forget them. Do you have a long neck? Is your singing awful? Some people just say what they see and can’t help it.

If they’re all from one person who you care about, I’d start picking them up when they comment just to remind them that what they say affects your feelings.

The one that stands out for me is the one about the singing. That seems a bit mean. The others not so much. A lot of people look funny in hats / masks and having a long neck is thought to be elegant.

Who is saying such daft things to you? Ditch them immediately.

If these comments are from an adult then I'd just give them a death stare and move on.

If from a child, I'd try to make funnier faces and be more off-key. Join in with the fun Smile

And having a long swan-like neck is a positive plus. Slim & elegant Smile

If it was my kid, then I wouldn't care.

If it was my DH, all in one day I would be Hmm

If it was DH with a month between each comment I wouldn't notice.

maddy68 · 21/09/2021 18:32

Honestly I think that's just conversation and throwaway comments The singing one is a bit mean though.

Lostmarbles2021 · 21/09/2021 18:36

Commenting on anyone’s appearance is a bit crap really. Reply: ‘you make judgemental comments about me a lot dont you. How come?’
Or just ‘rude!’ In a Miranda type jokey way.

Skysblue · 21/09/2021 19:07

They’re all pretty rude comments but the worst is to laugh at your singing, that’s really cruel. I suspect your singing is perfectly fine and it’s the friend who’s the problem. Sounds like you need some nicer friends.

If people bring you down, ditch them.
