To ask what on earth you think is medically wrong with me?

Posting here for traffic. I am losing the will to live here. Hoping there's someone who has been through similar health issues/or has specialist knowledge.

I have had IBS for years. Most recently its been so bad i have suffered with loose bowels nearly every day since June. Stool sample showed my calprotectin to be over 1k. Ended up in hospital at the beginning of the month for over a week. While there, bloods were ok and had a flexi sig which showed a little ulceration and some polyps but not enough to be collitus. Going back as an outpatient for full colonoscopy in next few weeks.

Meanwhile...I'm still so poorly. No diagnosis means no treatment so I am still suffering with diarrhoea every day. I'm losing a lot of weight and for the past weekend I've been so weak I cant get out of bed. They said colonoscopy could be 4 weeks...I'm going to try to use my work cover to referred privately so I can be seen quicker.

Just wondering if anyone has been through something similar and could offer advice or support. I thought maybe it's Crohn's but would my bloods not have shown inflammation then? I need to stop googling and I'm lacking any medical support currently so was hoping to tap into the wealth of mumsnet knowledge and advice... anyone been through this?!!

TIA

Could it be an allergy? Some allergies can develop suddenly.

I’ve had Crohn’s for 20 years and my bloods have never shown it - you need camera up and down to have a good check , keep pushing for this as it took me three years for diagnosis after being fobbed off with IBS etc and by then I needed two really serious surgeries

Immaculatemisconception · 20/09/2021 19:00

Have you been tested for Coeliac disease?

mineofuselessinformation · 20/09/2021 19:02

DC1 was diagnosed with Crohn's a while back.
The full colonoscopy was the diagnosing factor in their case too.

This could be me. Except I’ve had a colonoscopy which was clear. No reason for the constant diarrhoea. I drink sugary drinks and take multivitamins to ensure I don’t get too weak.

My aunt was misdiagnosed with all sorts until the colonoscopy found Crohn's disease. She has been under treatment for years now and it has been life-changing, she has her quality of life back 100%.

@thfc1882
Did you ever get a diagnosis?

HeyBlaby · 27/01/2022 18:47

It's honestly total guess work until you have your scope, you'll get all sorts of answers here. Paying privately would get it done much quicker though and you can still go back to the NHS for follow up treatment from that if you'd prefer.
