Kids and flu nasal spray

Did your little ones have side effects after the nasal spray ?

Nope. They've had it 4 times now, never had a side effect at all, not even a runny nose. None of the kids at school have been off after so doesn't seem like anyone else has either. Also as a teacher, I've never known any of my pupils have a side effect other than a runny nose.

Mammaaof · 19/09/2021 23:35

No

m0therofdragons · 19/09/2021 23:39

No, never had any side effects and have had it every year. They are 10 now. Happily have it and just say “it tickles”. Last year I filmed them having it done for our local campaign and there staff were fab with the kids. They’ve forgotten by tea time.

Do you give calpol before or after the spray my little one has it tmr.

girlmom21 · 18/10/2021 09:51

@Lullaby88 my DD had hers on Saturday and didn't need it.
They'll only need it if they get a temperature and fell unwell afterwards.

Merryoldgoat · 18/10/2021 10:13

No. Mine had zero side effects.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2021 10:17

The only side effect my teen had was a slight whinge about it "sitting in her nose" for a while. Or something.

Pippa12 · 18/10/2021 10:23

No

Silversun83 · 18/10/2021 10:26

Nope.

Flev · 18/10/2021 10:33

My nearly 3yr old was miserable and snotty with a raised temperature for about a day, but Calpol and cuddles made things much better and she was over it quickly. It was the first time she'd had a flu vaccine, so I'm not sure if that's why she reacted to it a bit.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/10/2021 10:38

No they never have had. They don’t like it though!

RuggerHug · 18/10/2021 15:07

No side affects any year. Booked in for tomorrow to get it!

perenniallymessy · 18/10/2021 15:23

DS1 has had the flu spray since YR (now Y8,) and has never had more than a runny nose after. This year he had that plus the covid vax the same day and felt pretty rough the day after so had a day off school. He had paracetamol as he was feeling rough- headache, high temperature and aches.

I tend to get strong reactions to vaccinations so I was quite sympathetic to it and thought one day off to rest would be beneficial.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/10/2021 15:25

DD had hers for the first time on Saturday and has been streaming and sneezing all day. Was fine till this morning. No temp and hopefully won’t last long but she’s my first so don’t know what’s to expect.

Windywuss · 18/10/2021 15:26

My dc has had flu spray every year with no issue. This time he had real flu symptoms. High fever, weak, shivery. Recovered after a day but now has upset stomach. It could be a virus but seems big coincidence if it is. He had it Friday. Stomach been upset since yesterday.

The nurse told us it's a live vaccine so side effects are to be expected unfortunately. There are lots of bugs going round at the moment too. Hope he gets well soon!
Windywuss · 18/10/2021 22:10

Thank you @girlmom21. He's still not great with poorly tummy. Hoping he feels better in the morning.

Whatsitbeen · 18/10/2021 22:12

deplorabelle · 26/11/2021 22:39

DS1 had it for the first time this year and had a headache with tiredness (could have been unrelated). DS2 no side effects and has had it several years running

Starlightstarbright1 · 26/11/2021 22:42

My ds offered it for the first time this year (14) no side effects.

Blueeilidh · 26/11/2021 22:42

No side effects, not even my youngest who does have some medical conditions that would make me more concerned
