To go the doctors tomorrow if my headache hasn't gone?

I have a cold (not covid) been ill since Wednesday but since yesterday I have the worst headache of my life, I've been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen alternatively every 2 hours for the last 2 days and it doesn't even touch the sides, I feel dizzy and sick everytime I move and now I honestly just want to cry I can't handle it anymore, I'm so tired but I'm awake every hour with the pain and then it takes me another hour to get back to sleep.

Is there any point in trying to see my GP tomorrow? Can they do anything else for a headache?

To be honest that sounds really severe. I would be seeking medical advice tonight if that were me: 111 at the least.

There's an NHS page on when to be concerned about a headache: www.nhs.uk/conditions/headaches/

whatnumber · 19/09/2021 22:41

Yes call 111. People can't diagnose you over the internet.
Things to think about: is it worse or better when you are lying down? Is the light hurting your eyes?

Pollaidh · 19/09/2021 22:43

Yes, seek medical help. A severe headache that's unusual for you needs to be investigated. It may 'just' be a migraine, but it could be something dangerous.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 19/09/2021 22:45

I suffer with a lot of headaches/migraines. I'd be calling 111 with your symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

ThinWomansBrain · 19/09/2021 22:47

111 - and be v careful on the painkillers - sounds as if you've had way more than the reccomended dosage - and when they say 2 every 4 hours, I don't think the intention is that you double up with paracetamol and ibuprofen.
hope that you get some help soon - is there anyone with you, or someone you can call to come over?

EmmaGellerGreen · 19/09/2021 22:50

DH had the same last week. GP wasn’t especially interested, checked blood pressure and neuro observations. Said to go back if it got worse and treat with otc medicine. It disappeared over a couple of days and lasted a week or so.

TokenGinger · 19/09/2021 22:56

I'd definitely get this looked at.

As a side note, I had very similar to what you describe a couple of months ago. I couldn't lift my head because of the pain. It was horrific. A day or two later, a shingle rash arrived!

wheretoyougonow · 19/09/2021 22:59

Call 111. You are actually overdosing yourself so need to let them know. I hope you get some relief soon Thanks

Dunrovi · 19/09/2021 23:00

Are you certain it's not Covid? Done a PCR?

Could it be Carbon Monoxide poisoning from a faulty appliance? Got a CO monitor? That was the worst headache I ever had.

Sherrystrull · 19/09/2021 23:02

I'd definitely seek medical advice. I also echo the thought that it might be covid, or carbon monoxide poisoning.

Tailsorheads · 19/09/2021 23:08

Please get it checked out ASAP

OhGingleBells · 19/09/2021 23:08

I had a persistent headache a couple of weeks ago (not nearly as unpleasant and severe as yours sounds) and when I went to the doctors they said I was definitely right to have gone in. Once they’ve assessed you, if they think it is ‘just’ a headache, I imagine they’ll prescribe some stronger painkillers. I’ve been taking Amitriptyline and it’s been great.

Feel better soon!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 19/09/2021 23:20

When you call 111, use the words 'worst headache of my life'. It makes things happen.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/09/2021 23:44

It might be sinusitis. I get it with nearly every cold and the only thing that stops the headache that accompanies it is a course of antibiotics.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/09/2021 23:52

@ThinWomansBrain

It's actually perfectly OK to alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen in the way the OP is doing, as long as you don't go over the max daily dose for either. I was told to do that after having my gallbladder out if just one painkiller wasn't enough.

I assume the OP is at least 16.
That said, I would seek help if the combination isn't reducing the pain. Like a PP I wonder if it could be sinusitis - I remember that giving me an awful headache.

Merryoldgoat · 20/09/2021 00:03

‘Worse headache of your life’ = urgent attention.

Call 111 or go to A&E

QuestionableMouse · 20/09/2021 00:06

Please don't fuck around and get checked out. I wouldn't even bother with the GP but would go straight to A&E.

Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 20/09/2021 00:36

At least call 111

ellyeth · 20/09/2021 00:39

Go to A&E. 111 isn't always that helpful.

CharlotteFlax · 20/09/2021 00:49

Absolutely agree that 'worst headache of your life' needs urgent attention. Please ring 111.

DoThePropeller · 20/09/2021 00:49

My husband had the worst headache of his life and it was viral meningitis. I’d get checked out ASAP.

Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 20/09/2021 23:46

You ok OP?
