Angry I can’t use parental controls for Spotify podcasts

Urgh I know that people will say “you should watch what your kids are doing” but I never would have thought that my son would find sexually explicit podcasts on Spotify of all places.

We have a family subscription for Spotify - it means we can use it on our devices. The kids like listening to music in their rooms using their phones/tablets. The explicit filter is a bit pants for songs, but better than nothing.

Anyway, turns out that Spotify has podcasts and some of these are very adult with descriptions of sex etc etc. Basically porn for the ears.

Ds (12) has incredibly strict controls on his phone plus all the PCs etc - and he’s not been able to get through. However turns out he’s searched sex on Spotify and has found these podcasts.

I’ve no way of filtering/blocking these podcasts and I’m going to have to remove Spotify - which seems so extreme - AIBU to be annoyed rhat Spotify don’t have decent parental controls in place?? All I want is a “block” button at the very least and then I can do my job as a parent.

I feel like I’m constantly playing catch up at trying to protect my child from inappropriate content and almost want to ban the internet completely at this rate 😂

Looks like you can use a kids account but that might be too young?

If you did use that it does look like you can share playlists from an adult account so still give access to some non kids content.

Does feel like there should be a halfway house between only one for young children and nothing though.

It's a losing battle trying to prevent access to that sort of thing, he's getting to the age where soon he will be able to circumvent all the parental blocks you can find anyway. There's a very straightforward method that works with a PC and a USB stick which I won't name here that allows the user to circumvent any Windows blocks and feed traffic via a VPN, so modem blocking won't help either.

We have family Spotify here. The children have children's accounts.
