To ask a Steak Pie question?

My DH came back from the butchers with a steak pie yesterday. The pastry is not cooked but I assume the fillings will be.

How long do I cook it for? And what temp?

I can imagine it will be lovely so don't want to ruin it Blush

You are not being unreasonable to ask a steak pie question.

Glaze it with milk or a beaten egg. Put it in the pre-heated oven on a medium height shelf at gas mark 5. Assuming it is a normal sized pie, cook for about 45 minutes.

Hi. Would prob cook at 180 c for 30 mins if an individual pie, or 45 -50 for a family size pie. Maybe add a wash of either beaten egg or milk before putting in oven.

ISpyCobraKai · 19/09/2021 15:05

Beatle egg, 180 degrees on the middle shelf for 40 mins or so until risen and golden.

180 degrees for 30/40 mins - or until the pastry is golden and insides are piping hot.

I was told by my butcher for a large family steak pie to cook it for around 40 minutes, but only add the pastry top with around 30 minutes to go.

He’s a keeper!

Who doesn’t love a good steak pie with chips, peas and gravy......,😍

CheekyChewinski · 19/09/2021 21:21

Oh it was so good! We had it with roasties (I know double carbs, but it is Sunday Blush) green beans and I did an onion gravy. Washed down with copious red wine Grin

Must have salad tomorrow!
