Phone Scam. Withheld number talking about

RevolvingPivot · 18/09/2021 20:09

Woman talking about bringing the washing in then out then in again. Was very strange.

Just had another one. Woman crying.

No one ever calls me so it's not someone I know.

Are these calls still a thing where the receiver is charged? I hung up both times.

Thanks

Wrong number?

I don't see how you can be charged for receiving a call? Even back in the day you had to agree to reverse the charges.

Child playing with a phone? I never answer call withheld numbers.

mummaelle · 18/09/2021 20:33

Sounds like a wrong number or most likely someone playing a prank on you

RevolvingPivot · 18/09/2021 20:42

I don't answer withheld numbers but my dd is having an operation next week and the wording on the display is the same as the hospital that keep phoning me.

The voice sounded fake it was strange. They didn't say hello.

As long as I won't be charged I'm not bothered. I'll have to answer again though as sometimes the hospital phone late with a recorded message.

I'm sure there were scams where people phoned you and you were somehow charged. Maybe I'm wrong.

I think I'm right in saying that the ones where you get charges are the ones that ask you to press 1 for some spurioslis reason. Like the one that tells you HMRC are issuing a warrant for your arrest, but if you press 1 then they won't Hmm

It sounds like someone's pocket dialling you OP. DP does this to me all the bloody time, and I have to try to work out of he's got crappy signal and is actually talking to me or if I'm in his pocket while he's talking random builder bollocks to someone.

WeatherwaxLives · 18/09/2021 20:49

*spurious!

Wtf spurioslis is or why my autocorrect thought that's what I meant, I don't know!!

RevolvingPivot · 18/09/2021 20:54

Lol thank you.

If you have BT, you can use Call Protect to block a Number Witheld Caller. You can't see the number, but the exchange can.

or just let them go to voicemail.
