To still be confused about foreign travel

After all the headlines yesterday, like many people I thought I’d look into a possible trip to Europe in October half term, having had to cancel our summer holiday.

I looked at Portugal, and as far as I can see, there really isn’t any change for unvaccinated kids (mine are 16 and 12). They still have to have a PCR test before travelling to Portugal, and on return they need a pre flight test, then a day 2 and 8 test, and have to isolate for 10 days! So the changes really only benefit people who are vaccinated.
Or have I got this completely wrong? My brain is fried from reading guidelines over and over!

I’m tempted too for some Oct half term break sun but can’t get my head around it all!! Following!

Your children don’t need to isolate on the way back as they’re minors - and are travelling with you, a vaccinated adult.

You will all need Day 2 Tests - which might or might not become LFT instead of PCR at some point in the future.

Portugal’s entry requirements are set by, em, Portugal. Nothing the UK government can do or update to change those.

Where is the information about minors? Because everything I see relates to under 12s as being the ones exempt from isolation.

Are you in Scotland maybe?

In England U18s don’t need to isolate - it’s on the gov.uk travel website. I can’t link right now but if you google ‘uk travel rules’ it will come up.

Thanks I think I found that, about the under 18s. But does everyone returning have to isolate until their day 2 test? It’s so confusing.

You don’t isolate at all, unless the test comes back positive or you get contacted by T&T for whatever reason.

The day 2 test system is a farce and many people don’t receive their results until weeks after they’ve posted them. So if you had to isolate until they confirm you’re negative, some people would be isolating for 3 weeks after a 2 day trip.

I think we’ll stay in the UK!
