Aibu and paranoid about this hospital letter?

I am being unreasonable to worry about this?
My mum had cancer 2 years ago. She is still on 6 monthly ct scans. She had one in July and still hasn’t heard back from the hospital. This isn’t especially unusual, during COVID she had similar wait time and was eventually told she had a clear result from the scan. Anyway, she received a letter from the hospital this week apologising for the delay in her treatment. She isn’t undergoing or waiting on any treatment….unless there was a problem with her scan? Do you think it’s possible the scan identified a problem and she hasn’t been informed yet but treatment was scheduled and now delayed?
Yes, I know she just need to call the hospital…but I can’t stop worrying.
Do you think it’s possible her cancer has come back and they haven’t told her? Does that ever happen? Surely they’d have to speak to her before deciding what treatment to do, right? Or is the letter an error? Or something else? Am beside myself with work.

Your mum needs to contact the hospital (the secretary of the consultant whose car she is under) on Monday and ask what the letter means and for the results of her scan.

No point worrying till then (although I know that might be easier said than done). There are many reasons for this letter, wait until you know what is actually happening.

In the future I'd be chasing up scan results at 2 weeks if you haven't heard.

I think you or her needs to ring her GP on Monday. They will have a copy of the CT scan report.

It might be a mistake, it might not be. Unfortunately no one here can answer your question.

I hope you get some reassuring news on Monday.

The GP will tell you to ring the hospital department to clarify.
It sound like a stock letter.

My friend had a similar panic inducing letter, turns out “treatment” was the word used for any care / aftercare / monitoring / follow up scans etc. Try not to worry until you speak to the hospital on Monday.

LtJudyHopps · 18/09/2021 18:59

Sounds like they mean the scan results when they say treatment. I know it’s easier said than done but worrying this much won’t change the outcome of it - try and relax until she calls Monday Flowers

I think if someone's cancer treatment was delayed youd get more than an apology letter OP. And if a CT scan showed recurrence and the hospital was sitting on that info, her consultant would be panicking right now. They wouldn't be sending a basic apology letter.

It is probably just a letter automatically generated because she is on on treatment pathway and her scan results have been delayed. Having said that she should call the consultants secretary on Monday to chase the results
