To ask physiotherapist to stop emailing me

During lockdown I developed bad lower back pains but was unable to get a referral for physiotherapy on the NHS due to GP not seeing patients face to face. Eventually I managed to get an appointment but was told it would be 10 weeks before I could start physio.

After several months of waiting, I decided to pay for private sessions even though they are very expensive and I have had to budget very carefully as a result.

After 3 sessions I got a call from the NHS giving me my first session starting the first week of October.

I decided to stop the private sessions as they are very expensive and I can’t really afford them. I explained my situation to the practice and gave my therapist a glowing reference.

However, my therapist has since sent me 4 email messages asking how my back is doing and if there anything she can do.

I replied to her 2nd message explaining the situation.

So AIBU to ignore her subsequent emails?

I don’t feel like I owe her any more information and don’t want her to keep contacting me.

Just send an email back saying thank you, but please can they take you off their mailing list now as you no longer wish to receive emails from them.

Yes there is something she can do, stop emailing and leave you alone!

I would email back and say something like whilst you appreciate everything they did you help you, you are now under an NHS physio and no longer require their services, therefore you would appreciate being taken off their mailing list.

If they email again I would get more direct and respond with "Do not email me again"

That’s a great suggestion, thank you!

The problem is that I feel a bit guilty. And also what if I want to go back to the practice? In the future I mean

Just ignore the emails! Someone actually cares about helping u! Nhs physios will not have time to give u the same attention as a private one so definitely don’t burn your bridges with them.

Tell her (again) that you're now under the care of NHS physio, and if that changes, you will let her know. If you need to go back, I'm pretty sure they will accept you as a patient again (+ your money!).

Hi x - as in email of (date) I e managed to secure nhs physio provision - I’m going to see how that works for a bit. You were so helpful and I hope you’ve seen my glowing review. Thank you. I’m definitely keeping you/the practice in my contacts for future help if needed. Could you remove me from your mailing list. I will definitely be in touch if I need help again. Thanks.

You're really overthinking this! Just politely ask them to remove you from their database for contact.

"Thanks for your help with my back. Please could you take me off your email list? I will be in touch if I need a further appointment "

ThinWomansBrain · 17/09/2021 06:28

simplest is to block the email address

or ask to be removed from their database - if they don't stop, remind them that they are breaching gdpr regulations, report to information commissioner's office.

If you haven't replied to the last couple and she emails again this is unprofessional. If you feel uncomfortable replying now, ignore and if she emails again use the thank you for your services etc but please remove me from your mailing list replies from PP before. Good luck x
