TMI - DD constipation - what to do?

Sorry TMI. Posting here for traffic.

A few days ago DD(6) started pooping up to 10 times a day. only a couple of tiny pellets came out most times and nothing came out sometimes.
Her GP prescribed movicol. She had 4 sachets yesterday and it seemed to help. She was able to pass some soft poop. Today I gave her only 2 sachets. She went about 4-5 times today, she is passing soft stool in small amounts.

I’m beginning to think soft poop is just finding it’s way around a big hard block, mainly because it’s just coming in small quantities.

How long does Movicol take to work? GP said I could reduce the dosage to 2 sachets when it gets better. What is “better”?

Have a look at the movicol mummies group on Facebook. Loads of useful info. Movicol isn't a quick fix in most cases and in my experience GPs are not very well informed on the subject of childhood constipation. Good luck!

I'd go back to 4. 1 day of 4 is not enough if there is a blockage

Look at the Eric.org website bowel problems section.

I'd stay at 4 for a few days, so the loose poos can help shift some of the old rocks of poo, before even thinking of reducing.

Movicol didn't do anything for us, small soft stool, still lots of leakage and. accidents because she didn't feel anything.

DD ended up under the care of a gastro expert paediatriction who prescribed Senecot, that was the only thing which got her bowls working.

Movicol no good for my DS at all though I use it myself and it works well for me! We are now on two other medicines.
