Got a new job, and was told to bring proof of address and my passport. She asked for a utility bill and bank statements, but all the utility bills are in my husbands name. Only thing I have is my bank statements and my payslip? Can I use this?

It would be better to ask your new employer what evidence they will accept.
Is it for a DBS?

Council tax bill.

Helenluvsrob · 16/09/2021 10:11

I imagine they’d be fine. Do you not even have something like a mobile bill?

FleasInMyKnees · 16/09/2021 10:12

Have you got your Marriage Certificate to show with a utility bill, your name should be on your council Tax bill and any voting or Census forms.

Driving licence, if you have one will work as proof of address.

jay55 · 16/09/2021 10:14

Bank statements should be fine, as long as it's within three months.

Lokdok · 16/09/2021 10:16

Of course you can. Unless it must be a utility bill. Read the information and ask them. YABU to post this.

You can get proof of being on the electoral roll at your address - look for electoral services on your council website

Ask your employer what they’ll accept. There’s not much point asking anyone else.

FinallyHere · 16/09/2021 10:49

It's an argument in favour of having your name added to at least one of the utility bills. Too late for this time, it's such a common question and costs nothing to add your name, I'd recommend doing it.

Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday · 16/09/2021 10:58

I work in compliance. They might accept a mobile phone bill. A credit card statement should also be ok.

Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday · 16/09/2021 10:59

But yes, as finallyhere said, joint utility bills come in very handy in these situations.

Yes, I have the Gas and Electric in my name and DH has the Water in his name for this reason

YABU to ask random strangers rather than the employer, but bank statements are usually fine for proof of address as long as they actually show the address (sounds obvious, but online ones don’t always)

hollyhocksarenotmessy · 16/09/2021 19:30

Is it for the Right to work check or a DBS check? Both have quite long lists of acceptable documents.

Passport, bank statement under 3 months, and driving license are fine for right to work.
