Aibu to feel this is not a quote from friends

I randomly thought of this quote “welcome to the real world. It sucks, you’re gonna love it”. I couldn’t remember who said it. Quick google and it’s origin is Monica in Friends (to Rachel when she cuts up her credit cards). I remember it now well. However something is saying it is a quote from something else, but said differently? Like a famous book or film much older than friends.

I can’t find any other than Monica and it’s driving me mad. Please put me out of my misery.

That’s what I meant by said differently. Iv tried other variations instead of sucks but nothing. Maybe Friends is more profound that I’m giving it credit for.

It sounds like it could be a reversal of a quote from something cheesy. Like some 50s black&white feelgood movie might end with a line like "welcome to the rest of your life, it's great, you're gonna love it" - not that I recognise it as such but that could account for your suspicions?

Bloody hell this is likely my stupid brain. Like how for years I didn’t realise space balls and Star Wars were different films. Then I watched Star Wars again and I was like ‘I thought he couldn’t marry her because he wasn’t royalty then they realise the medallion meant hw was a lost prince’. Drove me insane until I realised I’d merged a film and it’s spoof.

it is definitely from Friends! I remember it well, had it on VHS. Monica says it. It'll be season 1. I'm not sure that it's riffing on a specific thing, "it sucks/you're gonna love it" is very on-brand Friends scripting.

I mean, Friends is 25 years old so that's why it probably feels like it's been around a long time.

Lots of everyday popular phrases come from Friends, if you rewatch it you'll notice them. Not the really famous stuff but smaller things like the meat sweats or the friend zone.
